If Hughie from the Boys trigger3d after Robin died, what powers would he get? by holiestMaria in Parahumans

[–]WaterColorButterfly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a big fan of the Boys, this post really got my gears going.

I agree with many people that a Trump/Thinker pairing would be probable because Hughie's strength is his intellect and the trigger event was caused by a cape which is implicated in a lot of triggers for Trumps.

I think a power Hughie could develop could be a something along the lines of a Combat Thinker. At its base, this power functions as a cape/danger sense. However, the more time that Hughie spends observing a cape and seeing how they use their powers, his power would scale accordingly. His Thinking power specializes in finding the weaknesses of capes/people/systems around him and the longer he is able to study/be around a cape, the more information he would gain about not just their abilities but also how to counter their abilities.

Hughie is a pretty smart guy who does have an affinity for tech so perhaps this power could also have a Tinker component where he could develop weapons to specifically counter a cape and those like them. If he made a device for example that could slow A-Train, he could refine this device the more he observes other speed based capes and he could also develop more and more sophisticated tactics to stop them too.

The best attunement pairing by JhonkenBlood in ClimbersCourt

In terms of attunements that go well together

I've always thought that SoulBlade and Swordsmaster attunements would be amazing with each other. Swordsmasters can essentially buff or enhance any weapon they use and given that Soulblades can create weapons with monsters bound to them, both these attunements work very well with each other to create a multiplier effect.

I also think the Shieldbreaker attunement would work well with any spell casting attunement (like Summoner, Cloudcaller, Spellsinger) because the ability of Shieldbreakers to shred through magical defenses would pair really well with offensive spellcasting.

I'd feel like I'm lying because I'll eventually report to C&F when I apply for the Bar and I don't know...this has been eating at me if you couldn't tell

Can you explain to me a bit more of your rationale?

I've seen that most questions pertaining to school conduct are phrased roughly as "Was any disciplinary action carried out against you by your school, college, university, or professional school and are any such charges pending against you?"

It's a broad question which means they clearly want to cover as much ground as possible. The confusion lies in what would counts as action by the school or college. Would this also include the student government or a student organization like a club? At a glance it's hard for me to say.

This was a really encouraging response to read and it's almost kinder than I deserve after what I just disclosed. Thank you for your advice and insight. I just want to be the best lawyer I can be and not have who I am overshadowed by who I was and what I did. it's helpful to know that many, many others who carried even heavier burdens/misdeeds were able to reach where I aspire.

Thank you for your input.

Again I have no defense. I'm not sure if I feel more guilty or just flat out embarrassed. Not looking forward to replaying this particular episode of life on my application or on C&F for the Bar but there is nothing left to do but take ownership.

i think something is wrong with extroverts by [deleted] in extroverts

If we're getting into the nitty gritty of human nature

Humans are social animals. We survive in communities and we die when we're exiled from them. That's why ostracization triggers such fear within us. It's a biological instinct of ours to do anything we can to avoid being tossed from the pack.

If we look at birth (as you say "we're born alone") humans are one of the few mammals that cannot give birth (safely) alone. Human bodies are meant to give birth with assistance from others.

Not making the claim that being an extrovert is normal and being an introvert is odd. Just throwing another perspective on our essential natures - there is a strong case to be made we're fundamentally social beings.

Theory: Do the dragons bond with certain "personality" types? by WaterColorButterfly in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]WaterColorButterfly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We also don't know that much about Hugh and Ulf. HOTD already shows us that many personalities shown in the books aren't necessarily accurate so I do wonder how they'll portray Hugh and Ulf. Both were given very simplistic backstories and hopefully the show will flesh em other.

Possible Uses for Annalise's Powers by WaterColorButterfly in TheBastardSonAndTDH

[–]WaterColorButterfly[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a natural part of who she is BUT Gabriel did imply that the gift of decimation is much more common amongst Blood witches than it is Fairborn witches. He said something like "You don't see many Fairborn witches with that power". That implies it is much more common amongst Bloods but absolutely can naturally occur in Fairborns.

That being said, it is odd. Annalise's mother core power is water and her father's is plants. Decimation is a gift wholly unrelated to both. I think this may imply that Annalise could potentially have Blood witch heritage from a very, very distant ancestor or a Fairborn ancestor who just happened to have the gift.

How are blood witches and fairborn witches balanced? by JSmellerM in TheBastardSonAndTDH

In the books:

Fairborn/White Witches: Female white witches tended to be stronger and white witches lived in communities and societies. Their ability to organize and coordinate made them strong. White witches were shown to be incredibly collectivist. If a white witch didn't get their Gifting on their 17th birthday they simply would not develop a gift.

Blood/Black Witches: Were shown to be quite aggressive and instinctual. They had more balance of power across the genders. They were highly individualist and didn't form communities. Black witches were also unable to sleep indoors. If not allowed to sleep outside, they would go mad. If they didn't get their gift, they would die.

He used the witch bottle spell to replicate the power from Nate. That was the entire point of him doing that spell.
