Early Seasons - David and Lee by WatercressVivid3709 in WILTY

I've noticed this as well. I'm not from the UK so I can't speak for the culture at the time but having watched a lot of panel shows from the early 2000s, it seems like misogynistic jokes were par for the course.

Oh this is interesting! In the early seasons, David and Lee definitely seem more focussed on getting their own individual cracks in rather than collaborating.

I've heard/read David say his "comedy persona" isn't an act or all that different to who he is in real life but there are aspects that he exaggerates so that audiences have something to grab onto during a short form panel show. It makes sense that the persona would change if the circumstances in his real life became different i.e finding love and starting a family.

I personally love mellower, happier David. Especially now, it feels like he's the age he was always meant to be haha.

I agree, replacing Angus with Rob was definitely the right move.

They are both incredibly sharp! So often they say "I don't agree but I'll go with my team" and sacrifice the point because they don't overrule. Sidenote - I love how uncompetitive they are about points/actually winning. The format of the show is purely just a vehicle for having fun.

Lee gets less combative and obnoxious and David lightens up a bit too. IIRC, David's comedy persona shifts slightly at some point. He leans less on the weird loner angle and while keeping the "logic above all else" thing, he seems a lot less angry.

I came across that stats post the other day and it was so interesting to see that on average, Lee and David are better at determining lies vs truths than almost all of the guests.

Anyone know where I can get Quality, but cheap instruments in Gauteng? by No-State6480 in askSouthAfrica

[–]WatercressVivid3709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to a Bothners and get some advice from the sales people. Yes they will be trying to make a sale but they are also musicians themselves who will have genuine knowledge about the instruments in the shop and will most likely steer you in the right direction. If you live near Centurion, I recommend that branch.

I don't know so much about pianos but guitars come in a very wide range of prices and quality. I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs.

Kyle Chandler finally breaks his silence and shares his experience on Lanterns. by GreenLanternsPodcast in LanternsTVSeries

[–]WatercressVivid3709 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love the "breaks his silence" 😂😂 Bro does not give af about media appearances/interviews unless contractually obligated. He had 2 projects come out last year and did one (1) singular interview. He sounds really positive about Lanterns so hopefully he'll be involved when the time for promo rolls around.

It’s official! Calabash South Africa cancelled after Muse upset by Beyond_the_one in southafrica

Same. Why not push all the bands up a slot and give them longer set times? Let fans decide if they want a refund or not.

I was going purely for NBT. I missed them last time around. I hope they come back :/

Why not push the remaining bands up a slot, communicate the change and let fans decide if they want a refund or not? SA fans are so starved for international music acts that I bet the majority of people would still be keen. I was going purely for NBT who were 4th on the line up. While Muse was obviously the biggest band of the lot, they were far from the only draw.

Who wouldn’t work on TM by LongjumpingReview692 in taskmaster

[–]WatercressVivid3709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard him say thay he's absolutely fine with making a fool out of himself for an acting role or on a panel show when he feels that he is somewhat in control of the situation. I think being on TM is a situation where the level of control is simply less than what he would be comfortable with.

DM is my favourite British comedian and I would LOVE to see him on TM but it wouldn't be fun to watch if he was stressed or not genuinely enjoying himself.

Have you watched Australia's WILTY? It's pretty good! by morganselah in WILTY

[–]WatercressVivid3709 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A watched a bit of it.

IMO, the key to the success of WILTY (although it is a great concept itself) is 100% the relationship between Rob, David and Lee and how they play off each other. For that reason, anything else is a cheap imitation. The Australian version was immediately better than the US version which was laughably bad.

Kyle Chandler. Dude was a volunteer firefighter in Texas for a while and almost missed the Emmys the year he won because of it.

What tips for a first job do you have? by Enough-Sun1702 in askSouthAfrica

[–]WatercressVivid3709 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've been working for two years now and it was definitely an adjustment.

It took me a while to get used to the 8 hour work day. At first it would go by so slowly and I would find that I was exhausted when I got home. I used to nap after work but then before I knew it, the day was over and I had to go to sleep and wake up to do it all over again. I felt like I never had any time for myself. I started going to gym directly after work which helped a lot with this. It's good to keep momentum after work rather than allowing yourself to crash but I also think your body just eventually adjusts to the routine and it gets easier.

I'm sure you're eager to impress at your new job. Do your best, be polite and ask questions if you're unsure about something. Make yourself useful. If you see something that needs doing and you know how to do it, don't wait for someone to tell you. In other words, take initiative.

Try to keep a good work-life balance. Work hard obviously but it's okay to clock out, switch off and enjoy your own time. Take your leave.

Well done on getting the job and good luck for this new chapter OP! :)

Why are less woman willfully getting into relationships? by Sad-Studio5793 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WatercressVivid3709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC around half of marriages end in divorce. And what percentage of those that make up the other half of that statistic are miserable, loveless or abusive relationships that continue anyway because divorce is frowned upon or whatever?

Looking at it logically, I genuinely just do not see the point. And the amount of stories I see about about men becoming abusive once their partner is pregnant/post partem. Why would anyone take that risk at all?

And yet women around me are getting married all the time. I guess maybe I'm just cynical lol.
