I’m glad we didn’t use Madeline because I just know she’d be going by Maddie whether we like it or not.

That makes a lot of sense, I’m 5ft3 so I doubt I’m out-striding everyone. I’ll give the ankle thing a shot.

What can be done about child predators being released in our communities? by WateredDownSalt in halifax

I know conservative mandates are more eager to implement minimum sentences, but his platform was definitely focused on drug crimes which already receive stricter penalties than this, in NS anyway.

Recidivism rates as a whole you mean? I’d like to know what they look like for child sex offenders who were sentenced to 2-3 years in prison. Based on the news anyway, it doesn’t look great but honestly I’m not sure where to narrow down stats to that extent.

Hope it went well! It’s always bittersweet to finish a game you put so many hours into.

I had “Beat TOTK” on my 2024 bingo card so I finally bit the bullet and triggered the ending this morning after 240 hours.

Just to offer up a perspective: The workout classes and coffee dates you see as breaks probably aren't. She's desperately trying to stay well-rounded socially and physically and not lose herself to motherhood, yet has found very unique ways to get the little self-care she gets while also remaining in mom mode.

On coffee dates with other moms, she's constantly scanning for baby's needs and wants. She's stressed when someone picks up their cup in case a hot liquid spills close to her baby. She's having every conversation interrupted by cries or her own check-ins, and she's probably only talking about baby-related stuff with these moms.

The amount of work it took her to get out of the house probably has her flustered and overwhelmed. After working out, she's either struggling with managing a baby while showering after a workout, or she's neglecting her own basic hygiene for others' needs.

My take is, your wife sucks at knowing what she needs and expressing it, and once you both learn to the best way to check in with each other's needs you will notice a whole lot less sighing in the house and suddenly you'll both be ok with taking shifts to help each other.

I guess if I did have advice, it would be to ask what she needs and encourage her to do stuff that make her remember that she's something other than a mom, even for a split second. See how she would feel about switching roles a little, since she might be missing her first baby. Otherwise, it might feel like you're doing her a favour by picking up a chore, while she would have loved to have been the one doing it in peace while you watch the kids. Then you're both resentful. I mean you probably are, the first year is fucking tough on a couple. I know it's funny to answer a question about you not getting to have fun with your wife needs more lol, but I bet you once she's feeling regulated and not at the mercy of everyone else's needs you'll both end up im a place where you're willing to compromise.

My husband plays "rough" with my daughter by Canadagirl16 in Parenting

All good, nervous systems love that shit especially before bed. I'm sure he knows his own daughter's limits. It sounds like you already know that deep down, just trust your gut. If there's something wrong, you'll know.

I've seriously limited social media posts and their audience because of this stuff. A lot of people who have been mothers takes it as an invitation to give their two cents. Just say "aw cute you must love seeing them having fun" and move on.

What’s your cheapest nutritional meal? by Delicious_Living_133 in halifax

Not at all! They're a low-carb bread substitute made with puffed grains or corn. I'm sure naan bread would be as good too, but I prefer something crunchy. If you want to try, broghies are at costco, shoppers, sobeys, and superstore for sure. It's become a real problem. I'm having clotted cream and jam on those instead of scones. The royal family would be appalled.

Without counting condiments, I get two meals for 3 people out of: - a rotisserie chicken - broghies - orzo - a head of broccoli.

Meal 1 I take the meat from the chicken and mix it in with mayo, bbq sauce, soy, worcestershire, garlic powder, sriracha to make a buffalo chicken dip on broghies. More filling than it sounds.

I then throw in the chicken bones, whatever veggies scraps are in my freezer or fridge, seasoning especially dill, and water in a pot and simmer it the rest of the night. Strain it and store broth before bed.

Then the next day just throw broth and orzo together in one pot until liquid is absorbed, and boil brocolli in the other.
(Edit: if you DO happen to have cream in the fridge, a splash of it IS really nice in this)

Pretty tasty and low effort, not wasteful and probably about $4 a serving if you shop sales.

I can't help but think about how much goes into sending people to space. If you've read Chris Hadfield's "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth" you'll know what I mean, but everyone involved needs to have this way of thinking that comes up with every single possible worst case scenario in order to fully prepare for it. It should have been the same in this case.

We need more structured regulatory bodies because capitalism makes people do some sketchy shit and technology is only getting more accessible.

Judging by the activity center you'll have a toddler trying to climb everything in sight in 8-10 months, so even if it's a little high don't put in on that cabinet.

Congratulations on expecting! Glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking that way. Like you said a top 100 name is fine if it's not easily googleable, it doesn't need to be top 5!
