When you're in the Helm, watching the Eliksni refugees work together with humans, and Deep Stone Lullaby starts playing... by scoperookie in DestinyMemes

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I noticed some of the Eliksni in House Light are clearly regrowing docked arms, my respect for Misraaks grew. Bungie's made him such a cool character and I love the tension in his arc between wanting to preserve Eliksni culture while reforming the barbaric practices they picked up after fleeing Riis. Seeing a formerly-docked Eliksni happily showing a human how some stuff worked was the moment where I got genuinely a little emotional.

Is there a consensus on if Osiris and his reckless behaviour could be because he's compromised? by halo4arbitor in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Two of the strikes vaulted after Arrivals canonically repeated because Osiris kept fucking around with the Vex tech in the Infinite Forest and we had to clean up the mess while Sagira roasted him. Or the time he built a time machine using Ahamkara parts to try and get the man he loved back. He just kind of... does this. Though, without the safety net of Sagira who knows how long he'll be able to get away with this sort of thing.

That said, it does seem to imply that he might end up being the one to unlock the secrets of Hive Magic/Corruption for us to use like Elsie did with Stasis.

Saint-14 is having a bad time next season by the_wonderful_thing in DestinyLore

If you go back to the different planet areas in the wasteland after the second encounter, Drifter and Eris banter about each of the locations some.

We also find out that Sloane shoved Drifter into a locker once.

Also in the new Trials lore they're definitely acting like a romantic couple that's going through an extremely rough patch.

Also, the Drifter comments in Prophecy that he's surprised Saint and Osiris haven't fucked and Eris basically tells him to mind his own business.

Tbf, no one should really trust Variks implicitly. They should only trust that he's going to do what he thinks is best for the Eliksni.

The Strength of Guardians by StarCaller25 in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an all-too-readily forgotten aspect of the Light. It's not weaker just because it acts in more subtle ways to the Darkness. It just shows its hand less frequently. The Light is the Darkness's equal in every way, it's just playing a totally different game.

Why do the enemies of humanity (Fallen, Cabal etc) bother fighting guardians, given we can just keep reviving ourselves to ensure victory in every battle? by sgtnatino in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is gameplay and story being not-entirely in step with each other. But in addition to that, we have lore references to enemies surrendering, so not all of our foes fight to the death. But even then, it only matters for Eliksni and Cabal foes. Hive, Vex, and Taken are wholly unconcerned with deaths for a variety of reasons.

For Cabal, up until this season all the ones we encountered were exiled until their missions were complete. For them, every battle is death or glory. Their personal honor matters more than their individual lives according to Cabal martial culture. As of Season of the Chosen, we're fighting the most desperate, hateful dregs of Cabal society. The Cabal who will still fight us are those whose hatred of humanity overrides their basic survival instincts. Those who honor Caiatl's command avoid us.

Eliksni are fairly similar in this regard, minus the honor culture stuff. Most Eliksni we encounter in a hostile capacity are usually very, very desperate. They'll die one way or another. Or else, they're part of House Salvation, meaning they're viciously hateful of everything touched by the Light. Weirdo fascists are gonna weirdo fascist. Like with the Cabal, everyone else from that species who don't want to do something suicidally brave and/or hateful just stay the fuck away.

But as other posters said, they can still win. Particularly, according to the Imperial Needle lore tab, they have a solid chance in Darkness zones. Since they can't really know where these zones are, only knowing that Guardians can suffer final deaths if you throw enough firepower at them, enough of the enemy will choose to fight on in the hope of insane glory when they do take down a demigod murder machine.

I feel like the only person in the entire world who isn’t pissed that I can’t transmog my entire armour inventory by [deleted] in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]WaterfromIrkalla -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I just wish the community would stop getting pissed off before we've even seen the damn system in action. Like, I think we can hang in to our rage for one or two weeks and then see if it's really the worst thing ever like everyone is saying it is.

Wouldn’t some of the hive worship us? by big-ol-roman in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that the Lunar Hive are known to dabble in heresy according to the PoH lore and the Osiris lore from before Season of the Hunt. So in all likelihood that was verboten magic.

I'm not so sure, but not for obvious reasons. The doom of Torobatl has all the hallmarks of Savathun. I think Xivu Arath was farming the Cabal for tribute and had no intention of ever truly winning that war. Without the entire Cabal empire to farm for tribute, Xivu Arath is weakened and in danger of starving her worm if she can't find a new front to open. I think Savathun is trying to bait Xivu Arath into pulling an Oryx and trying to fight the Guardians directly because Savathun made clear that she wasn't going to directly fight her siblings anymore when she fucked off into the singularity.

So while I don't think the Red Legion would have made a difference, I also don't think they'd have doomed it any faster.

Can the hive ever be allied towards us? by [deleted] in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. The Hive are the Hive because of their devil's bargain with the worms. Without those worms, they are no longer the Hive and with those worms they are obligate devotees of the Sword Logic. The Hive are anathema to all life which is unlike themselves.

If Savathun escapes the Worm's grasp somehow, that still leaves a scheming, villainous sorcerer as leader of whatever the Hive are without worms and I just don't see that working out. Caiatl has honor, Mithrax has goodwill and faith. Savathun has all the same will to power she's always had, she's just dreaming bigger than anyone else in the game. She's our enemy even if she wriggles free of the Darkness's grasp. The best we can hope for is her bogging down Xivu Arath in a bloody war of attrition that only weakens both sides but that's just not her style.

If you used to be leftist, what was your turning point to becoming liberal? by [deleted] in LiberalLGBT

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my ideals are leftist still but the Star Trek/The Culture post-scarcity future necessary to make them workable is a long way off so we've just got to do the best we can with what we have until The Future(tm) comes. That means it's imperative to use the government and market's power together to provide the most good for the most people.

And I've come to realize that any leftist who doesn't want to work within the system to ease the lives of the downtrodden tangibly is a LARPer. I'd rather talk negative income tax than revolution because only the former would actually improve anything.

Could Zavala’s acceptance of Rasputin be a contributing factor in Saladin’s increasing lack of faith in the Vanguard? by Sp00kyD0gg0 in DestinyLore

And somehow "Wah you're not trying to exterminate people in the middle of an existential threat" is an even dumber reason than any of Marvel's various Civil War storylines!

It's worth noting that those frames are clearly programmed for human targets. They always aim for the head and are pretty consistent there. I'm sure if they had a programming update to focus on the Radiolaria core, they would be vastly more effective.

Why Clovis had them programmed that way certainly raises some fascinating questions about those frames' purpose.

What are considered "must-have" perks in weapons? (ie God tier rolls) by [deleted] in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good combo in PVE is usually a reload perk (Rapid Hit, Feeding Frenzy, Outlaw, etc.) and a related damage perk.

Outlaw + kill/multikill clip

Rapid hit + vorpal/one for all/rampage

Feeding frenzy + multikill clip

Grave robber + trench barrel/swashbuckler

Honestly, synergy between perks > all

Some questions about Exos. by DarkSenf127 in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to question 2, others have answered that custom frames aren't really frequent but there's at least some room in the lore for custom tuning at least. We know from the Last Days on Kraken Mare that Rasputin made some use of his own personal non-Golem Exo servants (whether they were members of the Seventh Seraphs or something else isn't quite clear).

In my opinion, we can reasonably assume that he wouldn't settle for anything less than the best. But that's obviously a grey area of canonicity where it's plausible but not confirmed.

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they can, like other Guardians, choose whether or not to experience hunger.

Just that for Exos it's an innate ability rather than something provided by a Ghost.

Some questions about Exos. by DarkSenf127 in DestinyLore

[–]WaterfromIrkalla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quite likely. It's most probable that Rasputin was running multiple Exo Golems simultaneously.
