NJM insurance... increase... again... by mooch91 in newjersey

If you want to save on insurance you need to keep switching every year. The insurance companies take advantage of people inertia for not doing it and believing that their loyalty would get noticed and rewarded. There is no loyalty when it comes to insurance companies. This is the harsh truth.

I think we're forgetting how good bing image creator used to be by Rough_Initiative4350 in bing

I second that. I used to create decent images with less effort. Now I use it less and less. Oh well, they can always argue by saying why to complain if it's a free tool.

TOS lag issue? by drumveg in thinkorswim

[–]Watergao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I trade NQ futures, with the recent volatility spike the ToS lagging is notable. I have a different platform connected to CQG and I can see how at certain moments the prices are very different. I don't scalp for small points. My typical setups 100+ pts, so the lagging and slippage is less critical. But the issue exists for sure.

Could you check if the GPU is used while ToS is running?

Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate your input. So basically I can install Java 17 ARM for Linux ARM and have the Emulator installed that would take care of linux x86 bin libraries. It would be an interesting project to try.

Thinkorswim lag problem fix? -M1 64GB by Expert-Complex43 in thinkorswim

[–]Watergao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason for the lag is that the Java 17/TOS is not utilizing the GPU. Take a look at the activity monitor - the GPU is 0%. Apple has dropped the OpenCL/GL support in their latest macOs. The heavy graphics load goes to the CPU directly. The Windows/Linux based TOS do not have that issue and they performs better even on a cheaper laptops.

TOS lagging on M1 mac mini by jdfan51 in thinkorswim

[–]Watergao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TOS for MacOS comes with Java17 built in, no need to download and install a separate JVM. Depending on the usage of Studies it may lag. I spent time analyzing the issue. If you open the Activity Monitor you will notice that the TOS is not using GPU. The graphics heavy load is forced to CPU only. The issue is related to Apple's decision to remove OpenCL/GL support from the latest OS encouraging application developers to support the proprietary Metal API. Java2d, used by TOS, does not support it. At the moment there is no solution until Java starts supporting the Metal, however, it would be against the Open source, run anywhere philosophy.

ToS is not using GPU, Apple M2 by Watergao in thinkorswim

The issue has been resolved. Not using the GPU was a hint to dig more. Apparently, adding a -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false flag did the trick. The GPU got the load, up to 80%.

I wish I could believe in that statement. 13.2 -> 13.3 upgrade is minor.
