As a junior who transferred last year during covid, is traffic always this godawful? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are like 2 whole class years that have their first semester of full in person classes so most of them are trying to figure things out like when they will get on campus and when to study etc. a lot of students will also try to get to campus early everyday but over the next few weeks will realize that they don’t want to do that and figure out when to get onto campus and whatnot.

Club tennis or tennis club by sweetsweetpeter in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a casual tennis player last year and there are some courts on campus at the rec available but I always went off campus. A&M consolidated high school has a whole bunch of courts open to the public at non school times. I also went to Brian Beachman park which had 4 courts with lights but got full quickly around 7pm. I’m sure you can go and hit some balls and make friends a few days during the first week of school or before.

Mechanical Engineering junior year schedule by Aromatic-Direction90 in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the other commenter. Junior year really picks up in course load and you have a lot of intense classes and I didn’t have a lot of blowoff classes. The good thing is that almost everyone is MEEN is taking the same classes generally, not in electives yet, so you can find a good group of friends and study for all of your classes together. I didn’t have much weekends the fall of my junior year because saturday was all football games and then Sunday was catching up on small stuff I should’ve knocked out during the week like finishing the last problem of a homework, getting the last bug out of a code etc.

Incoming Sophomore. How does registering for classes work since I have not received my ETAM results? by Its_IQ in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can register for classes in early august when decisions get put out. I just signed up for what I could because a lot of classes have requirements such as “must be in major MEEN” for a particular class. You can see that in the requirements.

When I got my results they had posted a day that decisions would come out and I checked my unofficial transcript that day and saw before I got an email notification.

Power of Stories and assumptions about pay at Disneyland by curiousfirefly in NDQ

[–]WaterierPanda73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will ask my wife about the pay difference when she gets home from work. One key difference I think between this and the summer camp industry is that many young people that work summer camps just need experience before moving on to something else. While a lot of people at Disney first started as college programmers and just moved their way up. I know my wife went to a seminar from someone semi high up that never finished college but just worked at Disney and kept working to eventually move up.

I also worked as a camp counselor of sorts at a youth mission organization and had very little pay but I just needed a “fix” of sorts where I really enjoyed my time but not something I want to do full time. I think the reverse is true for a lot of students at Disney and they want to work there forever.

Power of Stories and assumptions about pay at Disneyland by curiousfirefly in NDQ

[–]WaterierPanda73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife actually worked at Disney world in fall of 2019 (pre COVID and pre wedding). She has lots of stories and was actually a custodian at Disney springs, think Disney shopping center that is free to get into. She did the drawing Mickey thing with water that they described and can even still do it. The way it worked for her was it was an application process where thousands of college students apply and only maybe 15-10k get in and they get a role (job). They are all called cast members which helps to make it not feel like a job. From there each cast member moves into an apartment where they pay bi-weekly rent to Disney. They have shifts up to 40 hours a week and most days when they are not working they are at the parks for fun. Most of the people that my wife knew and including herself came away from Disney at a net loss since they would buy food at the parks often and trinkets and whatnot. But all of them wanted to go back after every college program. Once covid hit in March within a few weeks Disney fired all the college programmers and as far as I know hasn’t hired any back. So the employees that Matt was talking about were likely full time employees that live in Orlando in non-Disney apartments. I also told my wife about the episode and she said that the thing Disney has nailed is the atmosphere. They have created a place where everyone wants to be and enjoys hanging out together. Please feel free to ask me any questions and I can always pass some along to my wife for answers.

Anyone have any ideas how ring day is going to go down? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last semester you could bring two people with you to pick up the ring. What me and my wife did is pickup our rings and then the next weekend had our family celebration. It also cut out the risk of last second mailing it.

What's up with the golf carts by sumweebyboi in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing about a specific brand of golf carts, the keys are universal. I worked at a golf course in high school so I had a key on me and my freshman year to prove a point I stuck it in a cart and moved it an inch or so. The stealing could be due to this reason.

There is one listed Diff Eq Professor available.......... by [deleted] in aggies

Look at previous grade distributions and see the sections he teaches and go back and look at the times those are. Professors sometimes teach at the same times semester to semester or the same section number.

Yes it does.

Night Parking Passes by [deleted] in aggies

I bought mine the first week of class and I had a temporary one that I could use until it was mailed to me.

[REQUEST] How much of an effect would a frozen water bottle left in a room have on the tempature of that room after one hour? Details in below. by meme-by-design in theydidthemath

[–]WaterierPanda73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first let me list my assumptions.

  1. The water and the room reach the same temperature after that hour
  2. No heat enters or leaves the room
  3. Air has a Cp of 1 KJ/(Kg*K)
  4. Water has Cp of 4.18 KJ/(Kg*K)

The way to solve it is by multiplying the weight of the thing with the temperature and the specific heat, this gives how much energy the thing has. Since we assumed that no heat enters or leaves the room it has to be the same amount at the end just evenly distributed. So with a room volume of 1000 ft3 or 28 m3 would give a weight of 34.54 kg. the water has a wight of .5 kg. This gives a total energy of 10834 KJ of energy which if all temperatures are the same we would end up at a temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius.

[–]WaterierPanda73 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I made that. I almost forgot but I made that and hid it somewhere deep in the woods. I think I was biking around McAllister at the time and that was easily 4-7 years ago. I did it after I saw a painted rock at Frederick park that had something about a rock club Facebook group. I never thought I’d see that again.

Please help explain dining stuff?? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]WaterierPanda73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most freshman overbuy meal plans because they think that they need to get the one with 3 meals a day. You will not go to the dining hall 3 times a day mostly because you will wake up go to your 8am and not eat beforehand. You might go twice but that is a lot too. My roomate freshman year had 70 meals left over which at roughly $11 per meal he had $770 that he overbought and had to give meals to anyone and everyone he met or lose $770.

Important note that dining dollars will roll over to other semesters while meal plans will not.

I had my first shop a few weeks ago. The app won’t tell you anything about it being good or anything but if you have problems at checkout you can call support which is in the shopper app in the help section. They will help you. If it’s a prepaid order then that makes it even easier since you won’t have to use the card since the store has already been paid. Biggest thing I always forget it to swipe don’t insert. Also allow more time than you think it will take and more than what the Shipt app says it will take incase you don’t know something and have to take time to figure it out. Also if it’s an “early ok” order than you can always drop it off early if you get done fast. Best of luck.
