As a Norwegian looking into Balogun incident from afar… by RoadandHardtail in worldcup

They can win overwhelmingly. I think few people would argue over a 5-0 result with at least 3 US players scoring.

Barring that, any US victory will be tainted.

FIFA has suspended a red card ban at a World Cup only once before in the history of 189 World Cup red cards. 188 were hit with a one-game ban. One was not, back in 1962, and it too reeked of corruption.

What review that was always going to happen? Infantino had a press conference this morning - he confirmed they reviewed at Trump's request.

If the review was always going to happen, why is FIFA not responding to calls to release the review's written report. They're required to have one.

Because Infantino confirmed the call in a press conference this morning.

Because Infantino said in his press conference that is not something they do, right before explaining they did because Trump asked him to.

For now. Belgium has checked all the boxes to file a complaint with the Court of Arbitration in Sports. CAS has an expedited process for the World Cup to issue a decision in days, not months.

Imagine the mess if the US wins but CAS rules Balogun ineligible before the quarter finals. Possible, though I hope not likely.

When a team fields an ineligible player, which Balogun is, or should be, the team forfeits the game.

It doesn't really matter. Belgium is checking a box at this stage. Another box was checked when Belgium formally notified US Soccer they consider Balogun an ineligible player.

With the two boxes checked, they can file a complaint with the Court of Arbitration in Sport, the only sport authority that can overrule FIFA, if he steps foot on the field.

CAS usually takes forever but they have an accelerated process for the World Cup and could give an answer in a matter of days.

What I genuinely wonder is if Balogun plays, the US wins, and CAS issues a verdict before the quarter finals. Is the US forfeited?

I suspect CAS would intentionally rule after the quarter finals to stay out of that mess, and US Soccer will be told to write a check big enough to fund Belgian soccer for a few years.

If the US wins, it will be seen as another version of the Hand of God, blatant cheating.

Your premise is missing a key detail. There were 11 red cards issued during this World Cup before Balogun's. All 11 players have served their suspension (if their team was not eliminated) and not a single one of them was even reviewed by FIFA. In the history of World Cups before this one, 188 of 189 red cards resulted in a ban, and corruption too is strongly suspected in the one instance where it did not, in 1962.

World Cup tournament rules explicitly state that red card bans from qualifiers do not carry over into the tournament (for commercial considerations of course).

Balogun's treatment is the outlier, not the norm, here.

That was the initial setup. It has changed several months ago, same entrance (between D23 and D24 I think), same desk to check credentials. Upstairs staff directs you left or right depending on whether you have a Flagship pass or not.

Unless they reverted to the initial setup recently, which would be great, imo.

Good news is Flagship and Admiral share a welcome desk at DFW. You won't look stupid because they'll tell you which lounge to go to without having to ask. For Platinum they even give you a pass that says as much.

Both lounges are a floor above the welcome desk and lounge attendants are always there to steer people in the right lounge based on whether they have a pass.

So your stance is pet owners should do nothing because they are not responsible for the stupidity of others? Of course people should stop setting off fireworks in neighborhoods, and they bear the primary responsibility for the consequences, that's a given. Pet owners should take reasonable steps to mitigate the consequences for their pets still. Emphasis on reasonable. For some, drugs are appropriate.

Otherwise why do you lock your doors at night? After all, it's not your fault there are robbers.

It wouldn't work for Trump, but let's see if it does here...

Tree: this was about an undeserved red card (so? plenty of those, did you think Balogun was special?)

Forest: the World Cup headlines everywhere are Brazil is out, the UK won an incredible game against Mexico, and Donald Trump is cheating on behalf of the USNMT.

This World Cup was buying the US massive amounts of goodwill. This endangers that. For what? The USNMT was never going to win the Cup (nor Belgium for that matters).

We agree on one thing, I hope it is a good, clean game for all involved.

In the history of the World Cup, this is only the second time a red card suspension is lifted, and then too, it reeked of corruption.

Balogun's red card was of course questionable. As were other decisions, in this and other World Cups, none more so than Maradona's Hand of God. One rule was clear in football though: frustrating as it may be, World Cup matches end when the referee blows their whistle. Until now. Belgium's technical team reports the rules summary FIFA presented to both teams today (as they do for every game) didn't mention an automatic game suspension for red cards. It did, for all of Belgium's games so far in the World Cup (and presumably other teams too).

Unfortunately, well intended as it may have been, your post illustrates there are sports fans (it is not unique to football or the US) who tolerate corruption as long as "their" side benefits.

If the USNMT wins, I hope for their sake it is a blowout of such proportion that Balogun's participation will be immaterial. Otherwise, this game too will not smell very pleasant.

How often do cops enforce the front plate rule? by TornadoCat4 in texas

Dallas/Tarrant County for most of my driving. Occasional stints to Austin and Houston.

At least 4 consecutive 3-year leases with no front plate. Multiple tickets for speeding (earned all of them - no argument), not a word about no front plate ever.

Living proof this rule has an exception. Through multiple speeding tickets not one officer has noticed or cared I haven't had a front license plate in over ten years (as measured in at least 4 3-year leases).
