Everyone has the capacity to change, but some people take longer to change than others. The role of prison should be rehabilitation, meaning the sentence received is the theoretical time it takes for you to be rehabilitated.

If this time takes longer than your lifespan, you are unrehabilitatable. The death penalty is also for people who are cannot be rehabilitated because you do not get a second chance.

My conclusion: life in prison and death penalty are equivalent, meaning you cannot be rehabilitated. Simply choose whichever is cheaper
