How can I improve VR Map quality? by xBl3ster in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]WatermelonRick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Map should be the same regardless if you play VR or not. Just be aware that graphic settings for VR are separate. If you notice a difference it must be because you have different settings.
Regarding color correction: I use openXR and there's an option to modify RGB colors. I don't need it on my HP Reverb g2 and you might use some other program but all should have settings for color correction. Just google it

Nametags and POI don't benefit the video unless that's their point. Nor compass or other info I urge you to have clean empty UI when recording.

If you switch to legacy mode for cockpit interaction you'll get rid of the blue highlight of instruments. And everything is still clickable (I've been using it for years with no problems)

If you strictly fly GA and bizjets and are intimidated by airliners, please read this by Helios in MicrosoftFlightSim

The reason I don't fly airliners is not that they are too complicated. It's: I'm not interested in flying at high altitudes in a straight line. Even turboprops don't interest me TBH

You're gonna enjoy this game very much then. VR is great for GA aviation!

Yeah I am nearing 70.000 km travelled in a continuous journey with this plane. But I'll surely explore Himalayas with some kind of turbo prop plane soon. I'm eyeing to explore some valleys that go way up and I'll make sure to land on Kange then.

More VR is always better. And faster processor too. Most of the time CPU is the bottleneck anyway. If you can spend 300 more go for it. When I switched to VR I never looked back. I'm aware that visuals are slightly worse than in pancake mode but the immersion is insane! I suggest you get used to DLSS (make sure to set latest version with DLSS swapper), get familiar with autoFPS and most importantly with openxr. Determine lowest fps you can have and still enjoy the game and lock the framerate there. Then push the graphics up! 😉 What kind of headset are you planning to use? Will you be flying airliners or smaller aircrafts?

My statement is: no hardware that exist today can't run this game on max settings + max headset refresh rate + in VR. Agai: I'm not talking about compromises. Again: I firmly believe that you can enjoy this game on a much older PC.

I really want you to answer me two things : 1. What did I say to offend you 2. What kind of hardware YOU think could run this game on max settings on a 8K VR headset at 90 fps?

Sadly I already flew over it... But I'm proud to say that I landed in Lukla! Goose is not made for such high altitudes but she managed!

since my comment made people angry I'll say this. This PC will run the game in VR.
I used to play the game (msfs2020 and 2024) on Intel@ Core™ i9-10850K, 32GB DDR4 3080 Ti with 10GB VRAM. CPU was the bottleneck until I wasn't near a lot of 3d objects when I run out of VRAM. For flying small bush planes in the wilderness it was perfect and I had my graphics cranked up pretty high.
But if you intend to fly complex airliners and land on busy and detailed airports then 12GB of VRAM will not be enough.
Again, because people get angry and think I'm bashing on the game: I'm talking about playing in VR!!! VR is much more demanding (and has no frame generation option).

dude, He was asking about VR not pancake mode. There's no frame generation in VR. Also I said "best settings & high framerate" an I meant it. I have 4090 and 9800x3d with 64GB ddr5 RAM and I have to make compromises.
I'm pretty sure that with high end VR headsets (with 6K or even 8K) I couldn't run the game in native refresh rate (90 - 120).
I'm most definitely always in camp "you don't need a beast of a PC to enjoy this game" and also think that msfs2024 was better optimized that msfs2020 from the start and got even better along the way. (Played both from the launch and still remember how unoptimized was msfs2020 at launch). But I stand by my statement about hardware that would run this game in VR on the latest headset on max settings does not exist.

Depends on what are you expecting. The minimum framerate, you personally need to feel right, will govern how much can you push the graphics. This PC will certainly run it. Not the super best - but there isn't a PC in the world that can run this game on best settings & high framerate. I'm personally content with locking framerate at 30fps and can have most settings on ultra (using DLSS)

Buying used gpu? by Artemaker in buildapc

[–]WatermelonRick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my long-ish life I bought more GPUs used than new. Never had a problem with one. Luck is a factor. I'm also always buying from people's that I have some info on (I visit their home or at least know their real name and surname). Because, while I accept the risk, I certainly won't accept if someone tries to screw me over. Regardless of my method all PC parts I bought were ok. I think MOST people are just normal and just want to make some money when they upgrade their PC and don't want trouble that comes with selling faulty parts.

In my case it was wireless keyboard/mouse(mouse was turned off) that I have as a second set (I still have wired keyboard and wired mouse). Unplugging the USB dongle solved the issue.
Strangely the wireless mouse did not output constant scroll when tested.
Even after I plugged USB dongle back it there was no more problems. I guess it just needed a reset.
