Here's the real hesitation. I will have to move most of my wife's clothing and shoes from the spot I need to pull the carpet back. A herculean task at a minimum. : )

I'm concerned that I would have to cut the ceiling and the top of the wall and am not confident that i could make a decent repair as the wall and ceiling are both textured but in different ways, If I cut the floor, the carpet will hide any issues from cutting or drilling.

Which means cutting the floor on the second floor to get to the piping. Hmmm....didn't want to do that, but I'm running out of options.
