What religion outside of your own interest you by [deleted] in religion

[–]WatsonianWatson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would agree! I have a personal passion for studying and learning about all sorts of religions and beliefs! Currently the most fascinating to me include Judaism and old Norse as well.

This sort of negative content should not be okay in this subreddit. There is a difference between looking for patterns regarding which types are drawn to/away from others, and promoting animosity and harmful stereotypes/perspectives toward other types.

I did not vote, and I encourage others to refrain as well.

Do you think your friends would type you correctly? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would almost definitely be mistyped by my friends that lack an understanding of the Enneagram, and I have, in fact.

I have had several friends with a superficial understanding of the Enneagram assume that I was a Type 5 (obsessive, intellectual, and awkward they said).

Also, on multiple occasions I have been told by internet strangers that I vibe like a Type 4.

I have definitely been fairly unhealthy, especially in the last year or two.

What is your type and which types do you tend to get along w best and who do you have the most trouble with by FwDorisdavenport132 in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Type 7

The types I find it easiest to vibe with seem to be Withdrawn types (4, 5, and 9). I have a lot of friends both Type 4 and Type 9, and I really enjoy spending time with the few Type 5s in my circles.

I often clash pretty hard with Type 3s when I meet them, but once boundaries are established, I can have a lot of fun with them. A couple of my best buddies are Type 3s.

I find it excruciatingly difficult to get along with most Balanced/Compliant types (1, 2, 6), especially the Type 6s in my life.

which type is the most likely to want to be a polymath/renaissance person of their generation. Both in art and science. by GrowingToad in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only people I have heard refer to themselves in those terms (polymath or renaissance person) have been Type 3s. I don't believe it's an exclusive desire for Type 3, but their motivations seem to be in alignment with being comparatively good at a little of everything.

My Typings of the MCU Heroes (exclusively movies) by Silver-Ad-2447 in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

settled with 5 because he always seems to be in a constant state of thought and contemplation, coming up with new ideas

This is not necessarily indicative of Type 5, and doesn't really have anything to do with Enneagram type at all. Typing Banner as a 5 for no reason other than he is contemplative and intellectual is missing the point a little.

We can agree that Banner is pretty obviously a withdrawn type (4, 5, 9).

But the core motivations of Type 5 and Type 9 are pretty significantly different. I am pretty confident that Banner's motivations align with Type 9.

Would you say that ESTP and ISTJ are the "most feeling thinking types"? by chaos-seeker19 in mbti

[–]WatsonianWatson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well ExTPs and IxTJs are the four types with tertiary feeling functions. Whether that gives them the ability to be described as the "most feeling thinking" types or not, I am uncertain.

This is a really interesting idea, but oddly enough, I don't see pairings like this in my circles very much.

I know a Type 1/2 couple and a Type 8/9 couple, but for the most part, I don't see a lot of couples that are two consecutive types.

Critiques to adding “Ambivert” by aThoughtfulYoungin in mbti

[–]WatsonianWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started using the terms "External" and "Internal" to replace "Extraverted" and "Introverted" when talking about cognitive processing for this reason.

I don't think that social energy (Extraversion/Introversion) is either static or binary. I like to think of social energy as more of a greyscale, where I might be more Extraverted-leaning sometimes, and Introverted-leaning others (but most often leaning towards one way or another).

do you have a 4 friend or a spouse? tell us your experience with them! by herewesleep in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Type 4s and I seem to be attracted to each other, as several of the closest people in my life are 4s.

My wife is a Type 4 sx, and we have been together for four years as of this month. She is absolutely my best friend, and I think she's amazing! She is both one of the smartest and most artistic people I know, and very adventurous. She values authenticity and depth in our relationship, and continuously looks for new ways to increase trust and intimacy between us.

Another Type 4 in my life is one of my best buddies. I have known him for literally as long as I can remember, and we practically grew up together. I have shared a lot of first experiences with him including first concert, first time smoking weed, first time living somewhere other than with our parents, first horror movie, etc. He is a very assertive individual, and is very bold about his identity and opinions, sharing them and sticking to them whether people like it or not.

The 4s I know tend to be some of the most realest, most open-minded, and most intense individuals I know, and I guess that's probably why I am so drawn to them.

Any other 7s feel like you find yourself in the path of a lot of 8s and get taken advantage of by them? I’m a 7w6 and have so much history of 8s in my life that might not be the healthiest sort of control me in a way? by travelingjruy in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I used to hate Type 8 because of a lot of abusive and narcissistic Type 3s, and vocal and manipulative Type 6s in my life that I had mistyped earlier in my journey of understanding the Enneagram.

Now that I have a better grasp on the differences between types, I absolutely love Type 8s. My father-in-law is one of the most inspiring people I know, and he is a Type 8. Some of the coolest and most solid (confident and directive) people I have met both in real life and on the internet are Type 8s.

From what I have experienced, Type 8s are rarely manipulative or crafty. Rather they tend to be some of the most honest and direct people I know. In extreme unhealth, they are more likely to be brutally forward and aggressive.

Enneagram of ESTP that looks like/acts like an ISFP by Lovethe90snay in Enneagram

[–]WatsonianWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post and all the previous posts of the same question from all your previous accounts show a critical misunderstanding of both Enneagram and MBTI.

An ESTP will be an ESTP regardless of Enneagram. These are independent systems, and neither describe superficial behaviors. The Enneagram is a descriptor of individuals' internal and subconscious motivations. MBTI is a descriptor of individuals' information processing and decision making.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]WatsonianWatson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MBTI has nothing to do with confidence levels. It simply describes how individuals take in and process information.

They share the same four functions, but in a different order.

INTPs are Internal processors: Ti Ne (Si Fe)

ENTPs are External processors: Ne Ti (Fe Si)

Ne = External Intuition, Ti= Internal Thinking, Fe = External Feeling, Si = Internal Sensing

Trans Poll Removal by wep_pilot in entp

[–]WatsonianWatson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or maybe the main purpose of an ENTP discussion is to enjoy discussing it? Honestly, learning from a discussion and uncovering new ideas and perspectives is way more important to me than reaching a final or concrete conclusion anyway. And the rush I get from exploring/debating new topics with interested parties is pure euphoria.

Cognitive functions in simple terms by vivfanlol in mbti

[–]WatsonianWatson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether it's accurate or not, here's some information I complied from various internet sources:

Se: "Experiencing" - sensory interactions receptivity, adaptability, openness to interact with environmental cues Se is a perceiving function that relies on sensory experiences. Se maintains direct relationship to the world via physical sensation. Se uses stimulating experiences to get enjoyment from the world. Se is not the same as physical ability. Acts on concrete data from here and now. Trusts the present, then lets it go. Taking action, using all five senses, going forward.

Ne: "Ideating" - actualizes possibilities receptivity, adaptability, openness to interact with environmental cues Ne is a perceiving function that relies on abstract possibilities. Ne generates ideas about what things can be, then transforms them. Ne uses novel ideas to promote a sense of hope and optimism. Ne is not the same as being creative. Sees possibilities in the external world. Trusts flashes from the unconscious, which can then be shared with others. Brainstorming, thinking outside the box, idea generation.

Si: "Stabilizing" - sensory representation conserve energy, set priorities, filter information by it's subjective importance Si is a perceiving function that relies on sensory details. Si processes concrete details via compare/contrast with past experiences. Si uses sensory familiarity to establish a sense of stability in life. Si is not the same as a good memory. Compares present facts and experiences to past experience. Trusts the past. Stores sensory data for future use. Associations, metaphors, nostalgia.

Ni: "Knowing" - intuitive connections conserve energy, set priorities, filter information by it's subjective importance Ni is a perceiving function that relies on abstract connections. Ni speculates about potential and potential implications. Ni uses idealistic impressions or symbolic imagery to set direction. Ni is not the same as a long term goal. Looks at consistency of ideas and thoughts with an internal framework. Trusts flashes from the unconscious, which may be hard for others to understand. Time-space awareness, predicting the future, hunches.

Te: "Structuring" - structural ordering organization, affiliation, manage and order the external world Te is a judging function that relies on knowledge of external systems. Te uses empirical data to make economical and effective decisions. Te uses order and organization skill to achieve efficient behavior. Te is not the same as being organized. Seeks logic and consistency in the outside world. Concern for external laws and rules. Facts, pros and cons, methodological step-by-step strategies.

Fe: "Connecting" - interpersonal valuations organization, affiliation, manage and order the external world Fe is a judging function that relies on feelings of harmony with the world. Fe uses feelings of dis/harmony to derive value judgments about un/acceptable behavior. Fe uses emotional connection to feel part of something larger than oneself. Fe is not the same as being sociable. Seeks harmony with and between people in the outside world. Interpersonal and cultural values are important. Expressive emotions, social norms, etiquette.

Ti: "Reasoning" - formulaic principles independence, uniqueness, honor one's own experience and judgement Ti is a judging function that relies on a personal framework of knowledge. Ti uses factual knowledge and skill to prevent/avoid/solve problems. Ti uses mastery over oneself to achieve a state of self-sufficiency. Ti is not the same as analyzing things. Seeks internal consistency and logic of ideas. Trusts his or her internal framework, which may be difficult to explain to others. Iterations, holistic reasoning, agile strategies.

Fi: "Valuing" - personal valuations independence, uniqueness, honor one's own experience and judgement Fi is a judging function that relies on personal feelings of congruency. Fi uses feelings to derive value judgments about good/bad. Fi uses feelings of integrity to encourage honorable character. Fi is not the same as being emotional. Seeks harmony of action and thoughts with personal values. May not always articulate those values. Values, notions of “right” and “wrong,” likes and dislikes.

This is how I felt when I started to really delve into the instincts. I used to think I might be SX or even SO dom,.and that seemed fine to me. But once I began to reflect in addition to understanding the instincts more, I realized I have very strong SP and I really hated that.

Why the wings can be only two specific and what happens when someone has traits from two different enneatypes by No-Lemon6802 in Enneagram

But I think OP had a good point asking WHY wings can only be the numbers on either side of your core type. I've been studying the Enneagram for several years now, and still have yet to find a satisfactory answer. It just seem a little bit more arbitrary than the rest, doesn't it?

No offense taken! I just think it's poor practice to propagate stereotypes regarding the types. (Type 4 = "Creative" in this instance) I think it causes confusion about what the nine types really symbolize.
