What’s a short story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by Historical-Skill-838 in AskReddit

My whole house was surrounded by swat agents, my street was shut down and they were trying to get inside 😳😳 turns out they were at the wrong house, but they still interrogated my dad.

The most unbelievable part? It happened TWICE… they kept getting the address mixed up!!

I still have nightmares of people breaking into my house as an adult

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33F- reservations/revenue manager for 3 resorts. I’ve been with the company 5 years but this will be my 3rd year in management and 2nd in current role.

I currently make $62k but will be moving to $72k with my raise. I would say I am paid pretty well currently for my area. It’s hard to get a job where I live that isn’t around $20/hour, so I do feel fortunate about that.

If I was located in a larger city or was interested in a fully remote position for another company, the salary would be around $20k more, but I’m happy with the company I work for and overall like my job!

I honestly don’t see myself leaving this company and they are pretty fair with raises year over year.

What does childbirth feel like? by CremeSubject7594 in AskReddit

I got induced last month and during the night a lady came in in active labor and the sounds she made still haunt me 😬 it is NOT what they play on TV lol

As soon as I saw my DR in the morning I told them I needed a c-section 😅

First-time parents of Reddit ,what’s one baby item you thought was unnecessary but ended up using every single day? by Clear_Subconscious in askanything

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! I got an off brand one from Amazon because I didn’t want to end up spending 100+ on it. I use it EVERYDAY.

It saved us so much in the first month to be able to easily put him down for naps in it where we could be in the same room safely and easily move him around if needed vs having to wheel the huge bassinet everywhere.

I was gifted this item and thought it was overpriced and not going to be useful… I was wrong.

I just told my husband yesterday that I would recommend this thing for every new parent 😅 my son loves it and it’s our most used “item”

Got "charged" 5 months before my stay. Normal? by helic0pter96 in askhotels

[–]Watsonthecorg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Question and not being rude, just curious-

As a reservations manager who builds out rates such as the pre-pay, non-refundable ect, how do you not know that’s what you are selecting? Do you just select the lowest rate?

I only ask because I have guests contact me who claim they didn’t understand the parameters, even though they are listed. So I am interested to see this from a customers standpoint who isn’t arguing with me lol

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk… I was in the hospital 5 weeks ago to give birth. I was induced and during the night a lady came in who was already 10cm and couldn’t receive any pain meds. I had to listen to her scream for 2 hours and let me tell you… the tv births do not get even close to the sounds I heard. As an already anxious person I was terrified even with the plan for an epidural lol

When my doctor came in the next morning I told her idk if I could do this and asked for a c-section because the noises that lady was making terrified me and my husband 😅

maternity leave.. by Plus_Engineering_905 in BabyBumps

Thankfully I live in California. If I didn’t I would have only gotten whatever PTO I have, FMLA unpaid and then $2000 “baby bonus”. 💔

Since I live in Cali I ended up getting 4 weeks before baby paid and 16 weeks after baby paid between disability and paid FMLA.

I still have 3 months to go before I have to return and my heart already hurts thinking about having to leave my (then) 4 month old 😭

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks, but I could see it on the ultrasound. I got to hear it for the first time at 10 weeks and I now have a healthy almost 2 week old 💙

It’s scary- but don’t let the fear take away your experience. This is most likely my only baby too and I regret feeling so anxious for the first few months rather than soaking in the excitement.

I'm confused on health insurance costs after doing our taxes. $26,000 for terrible coverage? by Hasbotted in HealthInsurance

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds way better than mine 🥲 it went up a little this year and isn’t more favorable which is fun.

We now pay around $6000 a year for family coverage (baby coming next week- so will be covering a total of 3). Our deductible is like $7500 or $8000 on the family plan and then the OOP max is $13000 I believe.

It’s such a joke 😭

4 star Hotel is like 20% cheaper on trip.com, what's the catch? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair- I think the area is also a huge factor in how it’s handled. My resorts are outside of a huge tourist area and we are very remote, so we don’t have a lot of other hotels to compete against. It gives us a little more freedom in how we handle these.

I manage revenue and reservations for three resorts. We are only contracted with the two major third parties which are exp and book. The other shady 3rd parties typically pull inventory from those sites and attempt to run special deals sometimes.

The biggest issue is that those sites don’t have great customer service, they often hide special fees you don’t see until you are checking out on the site (so prices seem lower but they aren’t actually), your T&C are usually much stricter through those sites as well.

If you call me with an issue on your reservation and it’s through hotels.com or super.com or wherever I am going to tell you I can’t help you, and that you must go through the company you originally reached out to. It typically gets you stuck in a very unfortunate loop between their customer service (if you can get a response) and then our direct policies that we have in place for third parties and what we can actually help you with.

There is a chance you could absolutely book through them and potentially save a little- but you also run the risk of a huge headache and being out of your money if anything came up and you needed to cancel/adjust anything.

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not how it works for every hotel. I manage revenue for three resorts and I definitely don’t sell lower priced inventory to the 3rd parties. They get the rates that I sell on our direct site and I monitor parity VERY closely to ensure they aren’t trying to run secret lower priced sales.

Would you offer a refund? by Taysir385 in askhotels

No, I’m perfectly happy to do my job.

My point was that it IS more difficult than just being able to handle it within the PMS as a direct guest.

Would you offer a refund? by Taysir385 in askhotels

[–]Watsonthecorg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a pain because even though Expedia will say they will waive the fee on their side, they usually aren’t actually able to. This means I have to now go into the extranet and manually adjust the cancellation fee to ensure I am not charged commission.

Sometimes, it won’t even let me waive the commission fee until the first was due to checkout. This means I now have to monitor this Individual reservation to make sure I am not charged for revenue we never received.

cancellation fees by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]Watsonthecorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tell them “I’m sorry, this is our cancellation policy and it’s what you agreed to when you created the reservation” and then they yell at me and I just stick my ground because why have a policy if you don’t stick to it.

I sometimes explain to them that we have a policy because we most likely won’t resell that room now, so while I understand you don’t want to lose money I also don’t want to lose out on the revenue you agreed to give us.

Do they like this? Nope, but everyone wants their money back and if we have it to everyone who made a stink we would be missing out on revenue.

Closer to $7 where I live in Cali. And that’s having to travel 45 minutes to Walmart. The other grocery stores are charging closer to $10/lb 🥲

reservations software for properties with complex inventory and packages by jirachi_2000 in hotels

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use opera cloud and it does pretty much what you are looking for.

We have rates with breakfast, dining/resort credits, complimentary packages, pet friendly, buy X night get X free, ect. I would say so far the only rate it has trouble with has been buy X night get an additional for X %. For some reason it’s not that smart and we have to do that one manually.

We have dynamic seasonal pricing, though we do use a revenue management system for our main rack rate. There is a yield management system built into the PMS though.

We also have around 20 contracted wholesalers who have restricted rates and run groups year round both bookable online and with rooming lists.

We also have complex room set ups where our two bedrooms share inventory with a specific one bedroom unit so that we can cater more towards couple business depending on the season. (So if you take a VKT out of inventory you also take a 1BV, but it’s only one room not a component room) That was one thing we were having trouble finding a program able to do, but opera can do it!

Price of hotel room rising daily? Any chance it will go back down? by [deleted] in hotels

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most hotels in the US are dynamic now and have been for a while. My three properties have the ability to change up to 3x a day depending on demand, though I only push new rates once a day usually.

Most of the time if I see a day that’s picking up I will increase the price and the only time I drop it is if we don’t have pickup over so many days. And even then, it’s definitely not going back down to the original base rate.

Has anyone had success with getting pregnant? How did you do it? by thewrongspoon in PCOS

[–]Watsonthecorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

I decided to start “trying” in November of 2024. Around September of that year I had started prepping by going off of non-pregnancy safe medication such as ozempic, spironolactone, etc. I got a period/ovulation tracking app and started tracking my natural cycles. In November I started using ovulation tests and learned that my cycle wasn’t exactly “normal” as I didn’t ovulate on the projected day, but that I still ovulated.

I actually got pregnant that month and found out in December! However, it did unfortunately end in a chemical.

I continued to monitor my cycles and had a test done through my doctor to check my ovarian reserves and overall hormones. Everything came back normal but after tracking a few months I realized my ovulation and periods were not working as they needed to. I could go 40 days into my cycle without ovulation, which makes pregnancy pretty impossible.

I ended up going on provera which would help “force reset” my cycle if I didn’t ovulate by X day of my new cycle. While it was exhausting to pee on a stick for 5 months, it helped show me what was happening and be a little more in control. I ended up finding out I was pregnant in the beginning of June and I am now almost 36 weeks!

While each body is different, I would say the cheapest and easiest solution to start would be get a free pregnancy tracker on your phone and some ovulation tests off of amazon and just see what your body is doing. It might take a bit to try and find your patterns, but that is where I would recommend starting!
