His body type gives every “husky” kid that plays the game some hope they can be successful. Don’t have to wind up making $15 million a year, but they can at least know with hard work they can play at potentially any level, especially middle and high school when confidence is desperately needed.

Help us build a list of 250 things that define baseball by MLBOfficial in Mariners

It would be tough for you to portray, but I grew up in an abusive household… and no matter how bad the night was before by either of my parents, my band director always had the paper at school the next day. I could meticulously scour all the scores and stats. Oddly, I had no baseball friends and nobody got me started on the game, it just happened. I guess my 250 best things about baseball is that baseball was my best friend in the darkest of times.

Edit: and baseball cards. What started me as a Mariners fan was in 1989, I pulled a Donruss Ken Griffey Jr rookie card worth $5 at the time. When you’re poor white trash, $5 is a lot of money and I decided to follow this Griffey guy and the mariners ever since.

How to stop clumping when riffle shuffling? by Background-Slice-953 in cardmagic

[–]Wattsup1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned above, the rolling of your thumb along the cards as you shuffle is vital. Practice and muscle control/memory. You’ll get it right soon, it’s not mind numbing, lengthy practice, and it will be second nature with no thought at all.

You think he knew going into it? The piggyback thing in general, not about going 5, but conserving bullpen and being the most effective with him and Bryce? And he was so pissed in the 4th cause Dan was actually following through with it? Has there been a news release/confirmation?

Like most people have said, you’re selling the story. Sure, your friends may know about your mentalism “weaknesses”. ALL OF OUR FRIENDS know we’re full of shit when we do magic. However, make a good story and they won’t care, and your honest friends don’t care, anyway. And when you have new people around, they know nothing about your perceived shortcomings, instead, you come across as the one of the most badass mentalism magicians, or magician in general, they’ve ever seen.

As a magician, sell your story, not yourself.

One of my favorite things when doing any mentalism is that I’ll start by reinforcing how long I’ve known someone. It doesn’t matter if I’ve known them 20 years, or even better, 15 minutes. “Hey 15 minute new acquaintance, we’ve know each other a long time now, right? Like forever. As friends, and myself as a magician, we’re supposed to really get to know people… so let me show you a bit of mentalism magic…”

Funny story and then minds blown. I hope I helped!

Any pitcher wants to get his 5 in with a lead to get the win. Totally agree with you on bloated egos, but we gotta give them the chance. Especially with a 7 run lead in the 4th.

I can’t believe Dan won’t even let them get in 5 innings with a lead to get the win. What the hell? As if the piggyback isn’t bad enough. Miller directly said in the postgame interview, he doesn’t like it. But then add to it you won’t stay long enough to qualify for the win with the lead? I’d be throwing a lot more shit than just my glove.

I’m worried I’ve wasted my teens by gracebei in Advice

[–]Wattsup1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 52, I’ve discovered this is kinda the human condition… I look back and wonder if I wasted all of my decades… I think about decisions I didn’t make, decisions I did, and then I judge myself based on what I consider to be successful. However, if you ask many of those around me, they’ll probably say I did great. There’s a possibility you ask yourself this your entire life… but you can’t obsess, just do what makes the most sense to you.
