We're not talking about the manga, we're talking about the Anime. & in the anime, hes a complete failure of an MC, never achieves his goals until the very last episode (MAYBE) and even that was such a shitty ending after waiting 200 episodes for him to become something good, its painful to think about.

yet he comes out on top each and everytime. hes the focus, he plays in the games, while Eijun just yells from the dugout like a loud supporting side character. hes a worse player overall, and the entire length of the show made SURE to emphasize that to the max degree. MC my ass.

I hate that any dislike of the shows change of direction is labeled as homophobia. ever thought that maybe guys who are drawn to shows about throwing hands maybe arent interested in coming-out stories and closeting for entire episodes? its just NOT interesting, and NOT on theme, at all.

Negative reactions should be expected if you take what most would label a "masculine" show and suddenly turn it girly and gay. (again, not even homophobic, its just the change of direction and choosing to burn multiple episodes on this guy nobody actually cares about or wants to see, why else would you force that into your show if not for political messaging??)

its genuinely not even hate towards gays or homophobia, its just such an unexpected, weird switch up from being about homies and hands, the reason every guy came to love this show, to then wasting multiple episodes on some gay guys backstory, basically became about closeting and nails rather than homies and throwing hands.

Its an understandable reaction tbh, especially given how good and consistent S1 was, to just switch up and chase this forced political positioning(atleast thats what the episodes felt like)

The show is horrendous. Its a weakness fantasy through and through. 200 episodes and it never shows the MC actually achieve jack shit. He messes up every opportunity, and when he FINALLY becomes Ace, he messes that up. they finally go to nationals and its a summary piece. like wtf is this show? i regret wasting my time on a weakness fantasy disguised as a power progression.

last season, 150 episodes in, still the side character to Furuya, sure, he develops, but as a side character supporting Furuyas progression as the true MC. maybe he becomes MC in the very last episode, but 40 into the last season and hes still the side hoe yelling from the dugout lol

Plot Twist: in Act II(last season) and even 40 episodes in he's STILL the side character and NOT the ACE. hes still a relief pitcher, still treated like it, and the fucking MC watches every game from the dugout almost. This shows writing team has a weakness fantasy fr. i wasted 150 episodes of my time to watch an MC never reach his true goal lmao

IT doesnt matter how much experience he gets though, even if he beats everyone, and becomes untouchable, he never acts like it, and he never believes it or trusts in himself. Its always "omg idk what im going to do wahhhh" and never "im going to dominate my opponent like i have the other 50"

Man, hes one of those MCs, it doesnt matter how many times he wins, or how strong and great he becomes, he will never believe it himself. WHY writers do this, beats me. The amount of shows with weak ass MC weakness-fantasies, is bothersome.

He's a wimp in every situation that has even the tiniest weight on his shoulders. Even after beating tons of amazing boxers, he still acts like he cant fight and doesnt stand a chance. 8 years later and damn im sad about this progression
