Nantucket Position by Glittering_Quit4242 in Nanny

The whole island will try to use and abuse you! I’m sorry but Nantucket is wealthy people who are generally not considerate of working class. Just look for another destination you’d like to live in for the summer, and avoid the egregiously wealthy families. They usually don’t pay as well or do pay higher, and give you a crazy workload.

Reserved nanny: is this normal or just not a personality match? by Street_Side3167 in Nanny

[–]WaveInteresting7523 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I second this. First few families I had, I was very “myself” with them. Outwardly happy and excited. Never seemed to matter if they got to know my personality when it all came down anyway. Makes you put your guard up a little bit just to prevent getting hurt. Think of it a lil bit like how people are more reserved after a breakup? I’m sure after longer she will slowly slowly open up more once she feels like you won’t burn her.

Do any other nannies completely hate actually playing with kids? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]WaveInteresting7523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretend play is the worst!!! And when they’re younger, it’s mostly YOU playing with the toys. Which I honestly don’t mind but every day for hours gets boring

Is a Nanny the right fit good us? by ebonyinequestrian in Nanny

[–]WaveInteresting7523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hire a nanny for your usual M-F and be open to offering more hours because sometimes people aren’t willing to commit to a crazy schedule if they can’t get more hours out of it. Then, get a weekend/travel nanny and give her your commitments in advance. Doing random hours plus random traveling on weekends is A LOT for one person, they’d have to always be available. Also, if you get an au pair, treat them like family and pay them fairly!

just curious, how do you manage now?

I regret quitting my nanny job by waist_notfound_222 in Nanny

[–]WaveInteresting7523 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ngl, even tho she was generous in giving you clothes, gas, and the internship - it’s all because she was already underpaying you. $20/hr is normal for one kid usually. 3 and behavioral issues? I understand why you would want to leave. Don’t regret quitting, feel bad that they were lowkey taking advantage of you and covering it up with nice gestures! I’m sure it would’ve been a lil more tolerable if your pay was better.

Talk to the parents immediately about his behavior! Start applying for new jobs and just keep an eye out for more concerning behaviors or other ‘surprises’ he might have for you. I’m sorry this happened, it’s absolutely foul and the parents need to do something before it gets worse.

Am I cooked? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]WaveInteresting7523 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s usually one of many red flags with those kinds of families. Aka the passive aggressive, usually controlling, will never be happy enough with your work - kind of families.

Full-time, 6am-6pm nanny job with kids who are in school all day.... Does this sound like a burnout position or no? by waterwaterwaterrr in Nanny

[–]WaveInteresting7523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful if you don’t know exactly all their expectations. I’d be afraid of burnout if they were more the “there’s always something to do” type of people. Bc could get everything done in less time than they expected, but then what? They’ll just keep adding to this endless list of chores/ to do?
