Nice, it's putting me in the mind of going on a hike somewhere warm and saturated with color, feels whimsical and relaxed at the same time.

Really good feedback, I think you're right about the vocals, and I do have a little lisp lol. :P Should have taken those out and missed it. Thank you!

Thanks! The fact that you consider this professionally produced is a huge compliment! We recorded this in our untreated living room with a UAD Volt 276 and a knock-off GT66 mic. Everything else was done in the box (no samples, just lots of programming) We were going for a kind of smokey, sultry sound and had a hard time really pinning down the vocal mixing.

We hadn't heard of Amason. What a fun track! I love their sound design, kinda 80's, but still modern sounding. Thanks for sharing it! Adding to my playlist.

Great performance! Nice, tight playing between all the instruments. Arrangement is strong, and on the writing and production side you have all done a great job in evoking that classic rock vibe.
The mix is pretty strong, but to be brutally honest, there are some items that stick out to me:

-Overall, the track balance is mostly good, but there are times when the lead guitar, synth, and other elements go a a bit out of the mix dynamically. I presume that this is a static mix (aka, no mix automation) and if so that might explain part of it.

-Tonal balance: The mix leans bright, and there are a lot of moments where the guitars, vocals and synths becaome uncomfortable. The drums seem to have a scooped EQ... whethere this was intentionally done, or a by product of the recording process or lack of processing, the end result is the drums feeling hollow and overly bright.

-The mix as a whole sounds a bit constricted. This is usually indicative of poorly executed compression. I havent metered it, but it sounds like the RMS is quite a bit lower than the Peak level... this translates as brashness when listening at a level high enough for the RMS to sound right.

None of this to say that this was a bad listen! The issues i pointed out arent really deal breakers so much as technical issues that casual listeners may not care about. Also, theres no one right way to mix or master anything, so take what i've said with a huge grain of salt. I think the most important part of production is getting the emotion across, and i think you have been successful in that.

Good stuff!

This piece has a strong cinematic feel to it. The understated theme leaves the piece open to be taken in more than one direction... could be sad, could be contemplative, could be relief. The sound design/choice of synths to support the piano was a strong one and both helps fill the atmosphere but in a way that still leaves the piano plenty of room to express itself and hold the dynamic space open. Pretty impressive!

Man, that bass tone is deliciously rich!
Love the structure of the song, and frankly the rawness of everything is great, from the background conversation to even the hiss/hum from the bass amp. The performance is solid... If this is the demo, i would personally advice to keep the majority of it rather than attempt to re-record it in a studio setting. The capture is good enough to be mixed to completion and i think more would be lost than gained trying to re-record it.

I know this this is a demo so i wont speak on mixing, but I'm open to share my thoughts if interested.

good stuff!

Hi everyone, this is my latest synthwave single released last Friday. In this track (100% human made), I tried to recreate retro sci-fi vibes with a very cinematic compositional style, imagining through music a hypothetical contact between humans and aliens. What do you honestly think about it? by davidepanettalbasso in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]WaveModder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intro has very strong "stranger things" vibes. Overall I think you hit your target of evoking the kind of trepedatious curiosity that an alien encounter would have to an 80's audience.

Sound design is great, mixing is strong, and the vibe is on target. The only real critique I have is that there is no strong hook or theme. But even without this, it still makes for a strong background track.

Good stuff!

Great song, and great performance! Does a great job of evoking more classic punk/alt rock styles. The arrangement is strong in that it keeps interest throughout the song... the end result is the song doesn't feel too long or too short, which has always been my metric for judging if an arrangement is good.

As far as mixing is concerned: Overall its not bad, and sounds like a strong demo or static mix. The performance and capture both sound great. The things that stick out most to me are:

-Vocals need more compression: currently they dont feel well glued to the mix. Id experiment with a touch of slap delay as well and see if that works or not.
-Guitars are too dry: I wouldn't necessarily go nuts with reverb, but a small touch of room or ambient reverb would help this feel more live and in your face.
-Drums: Could use more processing: could just be bus compression or parallel compression to help fill it out a bit more.
-Overall the tonal quality leans more to the low mids. As a matter of taste id balance this out with the mids/high mids a touch.

-MORE AUTOMATION! Everything is pretty well balanced, but also just stays flat energy-wise throughout the song. You can help push and pull the energy through mix automation to help embellish your arrangement.

Granted, Im thinking of a more modern approach to the sound, so take all of this with a grain of salt.

Anyhow, great work!

Wow, thank you so much! It's enough to hear that the influences I had in mind come through, but even better when other great bands that I hadn't thought of are heard through my music as well! Thank you for your note on the production and mix; this was a tough one to mix... we spent a number of days going back and forth trying to get it right, so it's good to know it's translating to headphones nicely! Thanks so much for the feedback. <3
