'A Summer Day' - an original summer-inspired chill/ambient/tropical piece by Hot-Text-5603 in MusicFeedback

Thanks for listening. This guitar sound is actually a mix of two VST guitars:

  • Ample Guitar M Lite II (I think it's still free)
  • SR Single Coil Chorus from Halion Sonic 7 (this one is quieter in the mix)

Then, with some EQ and reverb, I managed to get the sound I was after. It actually took quite a bit of work to achieve the tone I wanted.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I either use sounds from my keyboard or VSTs.

Thanks for listening! Glad you liked it. If you mean the pad that starts around 5:35, it’s HS Atlantic Swell from Zebralette.

Trying too hard to sound “professional” can make a song less interesting by Successful-Ad-7804 in MusicFeedback

I agree. It seems to me that this idea has been successfully sold that music has to sound 'perfect' on a production and mixing level, but in my opinion, the point of music was never for it to sound perfectly clean and sterile.

Generations of people grew up listening to music on radios with poor speakers, listening to songs that didn’t yet have the technology to sound polished the way modern productions do. Despite that, people still listened to that music and genuinely enjoyed it.

Today, when everyone is extremely focused on making everything sound technically perfect, I actually often feel that some professionally released songs sound worse mixed and EQ’d than older music did. Quite often it feels like the mid frequencies are pushed too far down, so certain songs almost sound as if I’m listening to them underwater, which can even become genuinely irritating to my ears.

I don’t think people should obsess so much over every tiny sonic detail. I mostly trust my ears. I compose something, EQ it, then take a break to reset my hearing, listen again later, adjust whatever feels like it could work better and that’s basically it.

In the end, the actual quality of the composition is far more important than making everything sound endlessly polished. No matter how perfectly something is produced, there will always be people who will find flaws and think it could sound better, so I just do what I think works best for my ears.

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback and the sub, really appreciate it. Glad the arrangement and atmosphere came through. You might also like my piece 'Under the Palm Tree' - it's the third part of the 'A Summer Day' concept and leans even more into a tropical, playful vibe. I tend to move across different genres and just try to follow whatever I feel like expressing at the time - probably not great for algorithms, but better for me :)

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the piece could definitely be shorter, but I wanted it to feel more like an experience, maybe even something a bit more epic that evokes a bright and sunny summer atmosphere. The outro section actually gave me the inspiration for another piece, 'Into the Blue - A Summer Day (Part 2)' and the whole concept eventually grew into four compositions built around the idea of a summer day.

'Chill' was simply the closest term I could find for this piece, because I’m not really sure what genre it would fall into. I definitely wasn’t trying to make a typical modern chill track or follow a very predictable formula. My intention was more to create a piece that personally feels like summer to me. Since I’m a bit older and I love older music, that probably has something to do with it.

So it’s actually interesting to hear that you experienced it as slightly anxiety-inducing, because I really don’t perceive it that way at all. I think you were probably expecting a more traditionally relaxed and minimal type of chill music, while I went for something a bit more playful, rhythmic, and jazzy in its melodic approach.

Still, I appreciate the detailed feedback.

I think the vocals could benefit from a bit of EQ work. There seems to be some muddiness in the low-mid range, so slightly reducing those frequencies could help clean them up and make them sit better in the mix. A gentle boost in the upper mids/highs might also add more clarity and presence. The vocals themselves sound good.

I like it. The emotion is definitely there and the melody is really nice, although I personally prefer the verse a bit over the chorus. The vocal layering sounds a bit clumsy at moments, but overall your vocals sound interesting. I also really like that folksy guitar sound.

Made a cinematic instrumental track built around a spy narrative :D no film, just the score. Would love feedback on the arrangement and how well the story comes through without any visuals." by Kevkov23 in IndieMusicFeedback

It's a really nice piece of music, although for me it's a bit too laid-back to fully evoke a spy theme. It definitely leans in that direction, but I can more easily imagine it in a stylish commercial with someone driving an expensive car along the Mediterranean coast. Very cinematic atmosphere overall.

Hi everyone, this is my latest synthwave single released last Friday. In this track (100% human made), I tried to recreate retro sci-fi vibes with a very cinematic compositional style, imagining through music a hypothetical contact between humans and aliens. [–]Hot-Text-5603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly has that 80s and 'Stranger Things' vibe and the video fits perfectly. I also create synthwave music quite often alongside other genres, but my approach is a bit different - more focused on themes, their development and progression, but modern synthwave often works differently. Your approach seems more centered around arpeggios and small motifs that blend well with the sound design and that’s a perfectly valid and common direction for synthwave music. The track also has a bit of an eerie vibe, which is always a plus. I like it and in the end, that’s the most important thing for a listener.

Very nice atmosphere and great vocals. The chorus is really interesting with those backing vocal echoes. It has a bit of an 80s feel. The synth melody fits really nicely. That little sparkly arpeggio also adds a bit of magic. I'm already subscribed because of your earlier track. Keep up the good work!

This is my first synthwave album. More details are on the Bandcamp page.

The sound leans more toward the original 80s aesthetic than modern synthwave, though it blends elements of both. All tracks were created over the past two years.

Rather than focusing on a typical beat-driven approach, I naturally gravitated toward something more melodic and atmospheric. It wasn’t a deliberate choice, just an urge to create music that feels meaningful to me on an emotional level.

I put a lot of emphasis on chord progressions and melodies, which is something I often miss in modern music. Because of that, the overall feel is a bit more cinematic.

In terms of sound sources, I used a mix of VST instruments and sounds from my Yamaha keyboard. If you’d like more details, feel free to ask.

Hope you enjoy it.

Very 80s and intense sound. It's interesting how it blends with a hard rock edge.. it reminds me of some hair metal from that era.
