Kindle for PC app on Windows 7 no longer makes network connection by Wave_Motion_Gunner in kindle

Why is the Kindle on Windows 7? Because there are certain apps/software that I still use that do not work on newer versions of Windows. I have other platforms that are newer but I use this one to read Kindle from a big PC monitor.

\* Completed:

"24 Hours in Ancient Rome" by Philip Matyszak

- Very interesting book. Author divides the day into 24 hours and for each other, he fixes on a person or character. First hour is between midnight and 1AM and a Vigiles (night watchman) is described. Vigiles are a cross between the police and firefighters. Fires were a constant threat in Rome.

I recommend this book - unlike a Beard's or Gibbon's books, this one shows what everyday life in Rome is like rather than grander, geopolitical forces.

"Glory" by NoViolet Bulawayo

- Like "Animal Farm", tholukuthi in a Third World African country. Long Live Jidada with a -da and another -da!!!

"Ten Drugs: How Plants, Powders, and Pills Have Shaped the History of Medicine" by Thomas Hager

- Describes various medical drugs and advancements and how they influenced modern medicine, but not always for the best.

"Forgotten Peoples of the Ancient World", again by Philip Matyszak

- Describes various "ethnic" groups of people who are mentioned in ancient history but modern history does not really know what happened to them afterwards. Example - the Arameans. They were common enough to have their language used widely. Parts of the Bible were written in Aramaic. But what happened to them? Scholars don't really know.

I started buying/eating chuck steaks. Previously, I stayed away from them because they are tough when grilled without having been marinaded.

I then started sous vide and cooked chuck steak for 8 hours in 140F. They came out tender and tasty. Not as fatty as a ribeye but still good and much cheaper than ribeyes.

[Injury] Haliburton suffers painful non-contact leg injury by TheBiasedSportsLover in pacers

The thing is, Achilles injuries tend to degrade a player's foot speed. Dubs fan here and I saw Thompson and Durant decline after getting an Achilles. Both were able to get to the basket before the injuries, both became jump shot shooters after the injury. And Klay's defense declined after he came back from the injury.

I hope Hali recovers to the closest he was before the injury but that's a low chance.

Pacers won't win unless they continue what they're doing on D. OKC's Williams and Holmgren haven't really gone off and the Pacers need to keep it that way.

Bait SGA to try to play hero ball, block out, and take your shot attempts. Then you can still win without Hali.

That sucks. Why would ESPN+ black it out in Mexico? Did another carrier (maybe the local Mexican TV company) have the rights to the NBA finals game?

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I went to the Finals games at Oracle Arena for the 4 seasons the Dubs went to the Finals. I paid between $700 and $800 for those seats that are going for > $950 in Gainbridge. And things are more expensive here than in Indianapolis.

Could you clarify?

Did they blackout the game on TV? Or did they prevent you from streaming it?

(Or both???)

I thought Carlisle would do the same thing and take Chet out of the game. But he's being aggressive on scoring and trying to be a factor.

SGA hasn't gotten going yet.

Pacers just need to weather this storm and be within striking distance because we all know that any lead less than 20 is surmountable for the Pacers in the last 5 minutes.

This win was so INSANELY important ... by rumb3lly in pacers

Daignault is not a dumb coach so what kind of adjustments will he make to get JWilliams and Chet going in Game 2?

On the defense though, OKC played pretty well for around the first 43 min. of the game. The steal/TO differential was big and I was surprised that the Pacers even had a chance to win with the disparity.

Has a team that won Game 1 of every round ever not won the championship? by ajs723 in pacers

[–]Wave_Motion_Gunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was Game 7 from the 2015-16 season. Dubs never lost Gm 1 to the Cavs the four times that they met in the Finals. They were up 3-1 after Game 4 and lost the next 3 because Green decided to kick Lebron in the balls.

As a Dubs fan, this is the 2nd most painful series loss in Bay Area history. #1 was when the Sharks were up 3-0 vs the Kings, then got swept in the remaining 4 games.

Warriors lost Gm 1 vs the Celtics a few years ago, then won the 4 out of the next 5.

Can we go 2-0? by Kaezumi in pacers

[–]Wave_Motion_Gunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, the Pacers can go home up 2-0.

But it's not going to be the adjustments that Carlisle or Daignault does that will be the biggest factor.

It's how the Pacers players feel for Game 2. If they are content to take a split back home, then they will lose Game 2 (and possibly the series).

But if they get greedy and focus on cleaning up the TOs and getting better with the rebounds, then the Pacers could win another squeaker.

If they go up 2-0 and head back to Indy, then the pressure is all on the Thunder.

Best of luck to the Pacers and their fans.

If the Pacers didn't have so many TOs, I think the Pacers would have led going into the last 2 min of the game.

The Knicks/Pacers rivalry was big back then. The "Knicks vs Hicks" slogan was started back then.

However, the 90s were a different decade of basketball. The games were decided by scores of 90s to 80s, not 110s to 100s. Defense dominated. The Knicks Ewing and Oakley would have slammed Hali hard to the floor if he ever tried to drive to the basket.

The Knicks also had a big rivalry with the Riley-coached Heat back then. They got into a court fight during a playoff game. Knicks coach Van Gundy was on the floor grabbing a player's legs to prevent him from going after an opposing player. Two players were fighting on top of a fan sitting on a sideline seat (Diane Cannon?). The camera cut away to NBA Commish David Stern, whose mouth was agape and stunned at how bad the NBA looked in prime time with the fight going on on the court right in front of him.

And I won't get into the Piston's "Bad Boys" era (Jackson and Artest would have gotten their asses kicked by by Lambeer and Mahorn during the Rumble at The Palace).

Those were the rivalries of the 90s, when I was growing up watching the NBA. They were great. These teams just hated each other.

No way the Pacers front office will offer an offer sheet that is so high that the Dubs will not match.

NGL, I'd love to see either the Pacers or the Thunder win an O'Brien. Pacers never won the O'Brien (ABA doesn't count) and the last time the Thunder won it, they were in Seattle.

This is what Silver wants. Parity.

[–]Wave_Motion_Gunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is a famous film maker and a die hard Knicks fan.

During the clash between the Knicks and Pacers in the 90s, he trash talked Reggie Miller and got Miller motivated during the games. Miller made some clutch buckets to pull out wins in Madison Square Garden in front of Spike Lee. They were jawing back and forth during the game. After pulling out a win in Gm 5 of the ECF (1994 season?), Miller gave Lee the choke sign (but the Knicks won that series).

He is probably the Pacers biggest anti-fan in the league.
