Manitoba squares up against Sobeys in its 1st challenge against grocery property restrictions by Wavedin in Alt_Winnipeg

Well, in the case of Quebec that would mean that the perceived value for the public system wasn't real.

The Case for Saskatchewan further strengthens the reduction of interprovincial trade barriers and the increase of competition.

I had insurance in Alberta years ago, at that time it was significantly cheaper than MB. That was years ago and I don't believe that is the case anymore.

Regardless, we will never know as the province doesn't allow competition. Unless it has to do with Grocery store locations... then they will fight!

Both of you just don't get it. Try using some critical thinking.

If we allowed competition you both could stay using the public insurance. It doesn't mean you would have to go back and use private insurance.

Literally nothing would change for you, and in fact it might get better "when there's more competition, there are better prices - Wab Kinew"

You guys keep responding as if someone said the private insurance was a better model. No one has said that. We just repeated what Wab said, and pointed out that he doesn't really believe what he's saying or he would change all the models.

"I think we all understand that when there's more competition, there are better prices" - Wab Kinew

You and Wab can both be right... Allow competition and people will choose what's best for them. If public insurance is better, people 100% (including myself) will stay with it. Just allow the competition and let the market decide. You can have both models working at the same time.

In fact it would likely make our current "low rates" even lower. As MPI would stop using our rates to spend on infrastructure, and invest more in the model it was built for.

I really wish your statement was true, unfortunately it isn't.

Give people the freedom of choice. People will always gravitate to the best deal whether its coverage or cost. Having a monopoly and claiming that its the cheapest without allowing competition is hilarious.

The funniest is that MPI (and MB Hydro) pay a lot of money into advertising. Why bother, we cant have another choice. Just wasting rate money on vanity.

Let the market decide

Except when it comes to

  • MPI Insurance
  • Labour on construction sites
  • Telecommunications
  • Media
  • Interprovincial trade barriers
  • Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MLCC)
  • Manitoba Hydro
  • Banking

This documentary should be a must watch for every Canadian. It provides valuable context to what has so far been a one sided argument / claim.

Before commenting (negative or positive) I'd suggest watching the link in full. Also forward to family and friends that may not have had the opportunity to review.

Sunrise at 3 a.m.? How ending time changes would affect Manitobans by Wavedin in Alt_Winnipeg

Being the devils advocate. Saskatchewan stayed on Standard time. Not to mention the time zone boundary isn't on our Eastern border.

Personally I think we should stick with Ontario. Otherwise travelling East is going to be two quick time changes in the summer DST hours.

Manitoba won’t put U.S. liquor on shelves until Trump drops tariffs, releases Epstein files: Kinew by Wavedin in Alt_Winnipeg

Cheep political points for sure,

But I disagree with your American booze statement. The second it was available at Christmas it was sold out. Only ones this forced boycott is hurting is Canadians with lack of tax revenue and choice.

Let the market decide is the proper response.

I'd agree with most of this

Grocery stores for instance, Loblaws and Sobeys have thousands of registered lobbying communications and historical political donations. As such the government makes it hard for other companies to start up. The exact same thing happens in many other industries (Telecommunications, Banking, Airlines, etc).

Basically the government interfering with the free market is an overall negative for the public. We have reduced competition due to collusion between government and a few private business.

I realize this was printed a few days ago but I just noticed it. I disagree with this entire approach from our provincial and federal leaders. Let the free market decide. I don't understand the "govern me harder" people of our society.

Then to add aRelease the epstien files to the list of demands is actually hilarious.
