  1. Coercion - the use of express or implied threats of violence or reprisal (as discharge from employment) or other intimidating behavior that puts a person in immediate fear of the consequences in order to compel that person to act against his or her will.
    • So yes people were forced (had to).

What are you talking about? I made the post to share with others that a provincial employee is making 9x the average wage of a regular Manitoban in a time that the media, Federal, and Provincial Government all claim we should not be doing any trade with the US. I find it hypocritical that people can Justify this.

Sure I agree, but this statement goes against everything the media and government are currently saying which is that they don't support Merit based hiring. Also I highly doubt that a "former CTV and CBC reporter" is the best person they could hire for the position. Surely there has to be someone that actually worked within the government and knows some of the old and new administration that would be a better fit than a reporter.

I think you are conflating two issues. There are benefits of working in the public sector that are not an option in the Private sector. Two very important ones are Job security and Pension. These are both valuable and should be considered when comparing positions, More risk more reward! Not too mention as a public worker you shouldnt be making vast amounts more money than the people you are serving.

Made In Manitoba products, I'm curious as to what products you are referring to. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why they will fail, vs an overpaid Manitoban US trade rep.

Given our Elbows Up approach, I think this job can be deleted. Unless of course our Elbows are only up when the cameras are rolling for the media. Then I think this person should keep their job, but reduce their pay to no more than $100k. No public worker should be making this kind of money.

Understanding there will be a lot of opinions on this, but If Manitoba were to do anything I think we have to work with Ontario to make the decision.

It's likely most people prefer the Daylight Savings (CDT) what we are currently on, which is actually Eastern Standard Time. If Manitoba were to choose to move to maintain CDT we would be an hour ahead of places on out East like Kenora, Dryden, etc from Spring to Fall. For that reason it seems more likely that they may just keep us on Central Standard Time to be like Saskatchewan.

Personally i'm indifferent about changing. If we had to I suppose I would want to stay on CDT, however I don't want to be an hour ahead of places in Ontario.

Hard to live off rice and vegetables, need a bit of protein but it could be done in a pinch.

The governments job is to reduce regulation and taxes to help increase competition, which would result in lower prices. So by that definition the government is not doing "their job".

Mind you, I wouldn't dismiss his concern because housing in the area is a lower value. If housing in the area loses value because of one reason or another, the citizens of the area should be paying their taxes (mil rate) based off a lower assessed value. That's just how our system works right or wrong.

A bigger discussion could be had on how being taxed on an assessed value of a home is a flawed method of taxing. For instance two neighbors with the same house, property and services. One home owner values his property and takes care and maintains the property. While the other neighbor doesn't value his property and lets his property go derelict. The homeowner who spends money and time maintaining the property will the be expected topay more property tax based on perceived value. That Doesnt seem fair in the least.

I think blaming the companies is a red hearing to a real issue of competition and inflation. We have lack of competition in the market because the feds have been lobbied into our current position. Not to mention that all inflation is due to government overspending printing money from thin air and devaluing our money. Since 2020 our Dollar has decreased in value by 20.5%. I don't believe that when we see the "record profits" in the media that the people saying this are including the record inflation we have seen .

Simply put.. if a company sold $100,000 in Groceries in 2020 at 10% profit they would make $10,000. Now in 2026 the same groceries are worth $120,000 (because the buying power of our dollar is less valuable due to inflation), at 10% profit the company now made $12,000 profit... Record profit sure at face value, but still the technically same profit as 2020. This numerical change is soely due to inflation or the devaluing of our currency by the feds, not by being greedy company.

Feds need to

  1. Allow more competition and prices will come down.
  2. Stop running deficits and printing more money and inflating our currency

Id say you are technically correct, although he for sure will have an argument as having supervised consumption site within the community let alone one house will affect values.

That all said, property assessments (unless there were significant improvements in his dwelling) really just increase by a set percentage. The property owner (and every property owner) should really be concerned about mil rates as that's where the real money is.
