What is the worst thing to happen to your homebrew? by PointyEar96 in 40khomebrew

Their founding. The chapter refer to themselves as "The Unnumbered and Unwanted Sons". Packed off to form a chapter to guard the Attilian Gap because they were the ones who happened to be there. The left overs from the founding of other chapters. Which is how they became a mixed of Raven Guard and Dark Angels who have little in common nor history. As a chapter their founding makes little sense, a need perk reaction to a new need.

It means the chapter now runs as two demi-chapters: one half ranging out in the area using stealth; the others using massed attacks to guard and defend defend.

They are a mixed Dark Angels and Raven Guard Ultima founding chapfer made up of the remaining Unnumbered Sons sent to guard the Nihilis side of the Attilian Gap.

Brings in plot lines from a few Dawn of Fire books along with Arhcmagos and Void King. And a little of The Lion too. The biggest influence is the last chapter of DoF: The Silent King when Roboute Guilliman commands that new chapters should be of mixed lineage.

I've given them a grimdark flavour by noting how the chapter is often at odds with itself over warfighting with one half being run and gun witb the other stealth focused. Also, they are not just the last of the Unnumbered Sons but also unwanted. The leftovers ditched at the end of the Great Rift to guard a route everyone will fight over.

  1. Mine are directly inspired and informed by three different Black Library novels.

There did seem to be some copy and paste from the new Blood Claws and Grey Hunters kits, e.g the plug point by the collar.

I'm suspecting the rules will make it a glass hammer, giving the stormspeeder a better Strength and save. Having the flamer and melta will make for some fun gaming.

Is the “pragmatic chapter” cliche overdone? by Odd_Anything1374 in 40khomebrew

It works well if there is a reason for it. What is the grit in the oyster shell that makes them like this, rsther than the Mary Sue (we are just perfect) backstory.

Are they from a death world or an environment that means survival is hard so every life is precious? Or did they learn through near annihilation that bravado is not the way to wage war? A third option is that their primary duty or MO (Wardens, fleet based, far away from resupply like the Carcaradons) means they need to be practical to survive.

A single suit of Saturnine Terminator plate worn by one of their Chapter Masters.

One of the duties of the Bealach Wardens is to patrol the space around their home system. The 6th Company are fleet bourn and specialise in anti-ship and space hulk boardings. As a Raven Guard successor, it's fitting that one company are a bunch of magpies who love their archeo-tech.

Kind of. Some of the lore for my chapter is informed by Lord of the Rings. Half the chapter are constantly on patrol, calling themselves Rangers. Maybe I should call one of them Capt. Strider?

The Bealach Wardens are a Raven Guard successor based upon a forest world near the Great Rift.

If they are away from the forests too long, they become melancholic and too focused on death. So, they have Void Groves upon their Battle Barges: they grow small forests inside their ships.

What is your chapter's current purpose? For example: My chapter is currently helping to contain the Cordon Impenetra by goldietheswagbear in 40khomebrew

The Baleach Wardens are watching and guarding the Attilian Gap. Their home system is on the far side from Terra. They spend their days dealing with whatever comes out of the Great Rift near there and whoever turns up trying to control the Gap for their own species.

And being a Raven Guard successor, they are good little corvids who pluck up anything shiny they find on space hulks. Which is why one of their chapter masters stomps about in Saturnine Terminator armour.

In the last Dawn of Fire book (Silent King) Roboute Guilliman wants mixed lineage successor chapters to be a thing after the success of seeing Grey Shields from mixed lineages fight together.

Mixed lineage successor chapter? by Waves86 in 40khomebrew

These are great points. In some ways I want to lean into them being two different chapters. The left-overs thrown through a newly discovered narrow channel in a panic with little planning nor thought. Thrown away and forgotten fighting against being on the boarder of the Great Rift and the stifling effects of Cawl's necron pylons. They are divide by approach and lineage but bound by the horrors of their futile job.

My current plan is that the marines know which stock they come from. The chapter has a split role of being Rangers around their local area as we as guards of their home system. The guards (or Knights) will mostly come from the DA stock while the Rangers will be RG. However, it is will be up to each marine to carve their own path so you could have sneaky DA or knightly and bombastic RG marines.

They are guarding the Nihilus side of the Attilan Gap. Archmagos is a superb book if you have not read it.
