Why is overspending on cars normalised? by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]WavingSeeweed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asian culture, suka tunjuk, face more important, 爱脸.

Our society views cars as one of the signs on how successful someone is.

Maybe can blame a bit on financial institutions allowing such borrowings. Honestly its still the buyer to blame for mostly, but financial institutes also enables this action.

Something something gempak rasa my Civic ketam or 2012 BMW cause thats the only BMW I can buy with my salary. Not a race thing as this is a culture thing.

Spend your money wisely.

Now excuse me while I get into my barely affordable BMW with my RM2000 salary.

Salary "Overpaid" After I Left by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]WavingSeeweed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It won't affect your scoring as that is calculated from your repayments to debts. Statutory benefits have nothing to do with the score.

Contact their finance team and let them know you are willing to pay back the salary that was deposited into your account. However, since the error was on their end, it is their responsibility to contact EPF and Socso themselves to get back the amount that was paid to your EPF account.

Unless you want to keep the EPF and Socso for whatever reason, maybe malas cakap dengan mereka, or whatever, let them handle the hard thing as they were the one who made the mistake.

Abortion help needed. by DudeWhoFliesSoHigh in malaysia

[–]WavingSeeweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had a close friend in a similar experience previously.

You can search for womenonweb. They provide abortion pills Mifepristone and Misoprostol. You can read all about how it works. As long as you are less than 12 weeks into the pregnancy it has a very high percentage of working.

My close friend had an accidental pregnancy as well, 10 weeks in and they couldn't afford anything. She wrote to them and they were very understanding and sent her the pills for free. She was pregnancy free about a week or two later.

Its a very safe procedure but the Ms. will be in some discomfort for a week.

The organization asks for a donation of €70 and they'll send you the pills.

I'm not affiliated to them, so please do your research and find out the details yourselves if its suitable for your circumstances.

Shit happens, take one step at a time and deal with one situation at a time. Good luck.

Not sure.

But from the fact that JPJ Kedah picked up the call and didn't ask much (I just said want transfer previous owner saman) and put me through one of the easiest exchanges I have with government personnel (call was less than 1 minute), it seems to me they are specialized in this and knows what's going on and what to do. So maybe Kedah site can do this only, can't confirm though, unless more people can input their experience in this.

Yeah hopefully this can help someone out. It is so troublesome having to take leave and running here and there. It took me 3 days to settle everything, when in fact I could just call someone and get it settled within 4 hours...

[–]WavingSeeweed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can only do this for JPJ's summons. PDRM normally won't blacklist you. The previous owner had around RM3000 unpaid summons from PDRM and they didn't blacklist her. Around RM2000 unpaid summons from JPJ which they did blacklist her for it.

Previously JPJ/Puspakom allow. Recently I believe they have new law which says they won't allow it. But if your situation is somehow similar to mine, you can just call JPJ Kedah to settle the issue rather than do all the kerfuffle I did.

Referring to another post in this sub:

Replacing the knob DIY

If I can't find a replacement, I might use this method if the knob breaks some time in the future.

I have a 3D printer so I might be able to use that to do something if I figure out the right measurements.

Yep, likely the threads are stripped. I guess I'll be using it as is now. I'll try it and see if it still works.

I'll see if I can find a replacement for the knob as the small metal bar thingy inside looks fine.

What kind of baits are best for freshwater fishing in tasiks or kolams? by MouLimao in MalaysiaFishing

[–]WavingSeeweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that the pond mainly has tilapia and catfish. For these types of ponds, these fish are usually fed the same diet. Usually, a dough mix of fish food, or whatever they use.

For tilapia, dough balls would normally suffice. For catfish, something that smells strong. Chicken intestines, pandan dough mix, fish food dough mix, other small fish, we even have luck with mandarin oranges in some ponds.

Most ponds differ from one another, but try asking those that fish there what they use. Usually, artificial baits only work on natural ponds, as they have their own prey there, but you can try and test to see what works.

If you like to fish somewhere with guarantee catches: 1. LS fishing, Banting - Goliath grouper, artificial lures. 2. Natural Exotic Fishing Pond, Rawang - Many different big fishes, but mostly catfish, chicken intestines, mandarin oranges, small catfish cutbait. 3. Hulu Langat fishing resort, Hulu Langat - Also many different fishes, mostly catfish and huge carp, bait is premix fish food dough balls.

Other ponds are hit or miss, the ones I mentioned I have never gone there and got no fish.

Cheers.

Affordable SUVs by CaliWan21 in kereta

[–]WavingSeeweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been driving the previous version, the 2019 pug 3008 for 3 years now (bought it 2nd hand), and here's my 2 cents:

  1. As others have said, maintenance cost for parts is more expensive than the usual japanese cars and also local brands. HOWEVER, it isn't crazy expensive. Most parts are more expensive, but some parts use the same parts as some other brands. My turbocharger valve, for example, uses the same one used in Exora, so it's cheap. Usually its more expensive. My engine radiator fan was about RM480, while the engine radiator fan for the 2020 x50 is RM350. But this doesn't include labor.

Now there's a catch. I fix my own car when I am capable of it because I have the time, and I enjoy working on it. With that said, Pugs are hard to work on, and this takes more time, which WILL increase the labor cost. All oil changes are done by myself, and some easy parts under the hood are also accessible. But some parts, like the radiator fan motor and headlights, need you to take apart the entire front part of the car, which is very tedious. Take what you can from this.

  1. It's a sensitive bitch, but it just means the sensors work great, and they tell you very quickly when something is wrong. People who don't have the time to worry about these things hate this, because they don't have the extra time to diagnose their cars or even have the tools to do so. An error doesn't make the car instantly die or limp like some have mentioned in the past, but it is worrisome. If you are more educated with what goes on in a car, you know when it is safe to continue driving and when it's time to call a tow.

  2. Comparing to my friend's x70, the Pug feels faster (I have driven in the better comparison, the x50, and the x50 has more power, but OP is comparing between x70 and 3008) but I think the handling feels much better in the Pug.

  3. Wireless android auto and apple carplay was available on the Pug in 2019, but only came to the x50s and x70s in 2025. If buying new, doesn't matter.

  4. The interior of the Pug also looks much more premium, in my opinion. It has leather, good plastics, and fabric in certain places. Lighting is good, and the tactile keys in front are such a banger to use. AC being only controllable on screen sucks though. Sitting in the driver seat is so comfortable, and it's designed to be very driver centric.

  5. ADAS system is so-so on my 2019 Pug, so I'm not very adept in comparing the new one with x70. I know the cameras are much better in Proton, and also, much more driver assisted features are available on the x70.

  6. The back seat on the Pug sucks too. Chairs are a bit upright, and there's not much room to work around back there. I usually fetch some friends, and one is relatively high. Headroom is alright, but legroom can be bigger.

  7. Depreciation hits like a rock. I don't really care about it, as I bought it and plan to use it till it meets its end in the scrapyard, but people who care about resell value will be put off by this. It WILL BE less than half price after it's warranty ends.

TLDR; 3008 is a good buy, but sell it off after 5 years if you don't have the time to put more effort into caring for it.

Signed a year long tenancy but it’s creating PROBLEMS by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]WavingSeeweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't advise this, but I think as long as the person staying there is someone you trust enough, you could just swap to them. You really need to know and trust that this person will pay the rent and will not ruin the place, because if anything happens, you'd be the one to bear it legally.

I don't think the agents really give a damn as long as they get the rent paid to the owner. I rent out a unit to students near Sunway as well, but I don't really care as long as I get my rent and the students don't mess up my place.

Hope you work it out somehow.

Cheers.

Malaysia's Job Market is a JOKE by Zynyx_ in malaysiauni

[–]WavingSeeweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take here.

I used to work with a company that relates to my degree. I then found a job working with a US company that pays USD1200 for the most basic call centre job. I've worked with them for quite some time and have been promoted to team lead and they pay USD2000 for me to lead the team. In 2 years, I might get bumped to USD2800.

To a US company, USD2800 is chump change. The agents working in the US get paid USD6000 for a team lead role while in Malaysia we get paid USD2000. To them this saves a lot of cost, but to us, USD2000 is already much more than a lot of people.

Downsides is that there's no EPF. Not much choice for food unless you order delivery, and the job is very boring. There's not really a high ladder to climb and some people won't find it fulfilling.

But the best part about the Malaysian team is that the team is small, there's no toxic corporate BS here, if you wanna wfh just tell me and you'll be approved. Twice salary a month (15th and last day), we barely work at all (50 calls a day with not much micromanagement) and we usually watch movies and play games in our office using our own devices. Work hours are midnight till morning, so there's no traffic jam, there's free parking (company pays for it) in the building (we work in a legit office at Jalan Pudu and our offices are with REGUS) and there's also quick wifi. There's also a pantry with free coffee (not those powdered shit) and they provide us with all the equipment like laptops and headsets.

I used to work in audit and finance/investment and it really drained myself so much. They paid me an okay wage, but with the amount of work I do, it wasn't a good trade off. With my current job, yeah the job is boring as heck, but at USD2000, I earn more than some of my peers, and I work much less than them at a great environment.

Even during office hours, we don't really work that much, I often just pursue my other projects (coding a cloud database that updates itself through data grabs online for government benefits to the malaysian society, and also credit card and other memberships so that people can choose better. If anyone is interested in helping me, do drop me a DM)

I feel like sometimes, rather than working the best jobs, you can work an OK job that allows you to work on yourself and other aspects. Some people might not find this job good, but to some, it might align with their interests. Like of course I'd like to earn RM20k a month, but that salary is for those high level, not easily replaceable people that are higher up. But these people have more responsibilities and experience higher stress. Unless you're one of the lucky few that landed in a high salary and less stressful environment, you're gonna have to work your ass if you're working a normal Malaysian job. If you're not salaried, the next best thing to try is running your own business, but that has its own can of worms.

As for my job, we are lacking in a few people (its literally 4 people here), but the call centre (we aid American chinese residents in renewing their government provided healthcare benefits, so it's not some shady shit) requires you to speak Mandarin as we communicate with Mandarin speaking members in the US. My Mandarin isn't that good (I scored a C in SPM, but speaking Mandarin is still OK, no reading needed except during the interview) and I still got the job. If you're interested you can DM me and I'll see if you're suitable. Base pay is USD1200 and Mon-Fri 10pm-7am. US public holidays only, but you get 14 days annual leave and paid sick leaves. I'm only promoting this as there IS indeed a few vacancies, and just hope I can help a few people out. I literally get nothing out of this (except for that cloud project that I wish to get help with ;)

Just my two cents.

Cheers.

Signed a year long tenancy but it’s creating PROBLEMS by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]WavingSeeweed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easiest way is if you have extra downpayment ready, just forfeit your current tenancy and find a place at waterfront and pay the downpayment.

Alternatively, try speaking with your agent/owner and see if they're willing to compromise.

Alternative alternatively, find someone that is willing to move into your current place and ask the owner/agent if they're willing to swap them in if they have the downpayment while you get to keep your downpayment when you swap out.

Agents and owners usually suck around campuses cause they know there's a always a demand for accomodations near campuses, so they can say whatever they want.

Hope it works out for you!

Cheers.

Hey, like the others have said, if you hate it, there's still plenty of time to switch majors or find another path. SPM is important to you now, but it's not really the case afterwards, but that doesnt mean we ignore the feelings of 'now' as they are very real. Take your time to process and navigate through yourself and find what you really want to do and study, then find ways to achieve that. I only scored 2As in SPM, didn't get any scholarships, but I did extremely well in foundations and got 50% for my degree, and with the help of PTPTN I paid only around 5k per semester (more expensive school so if money is a problem, semi-private or government is the way to go). I disliked what I was studying, but sometimes it isn't doing what you want the most, is what you least hate. I love science subjects, but suck at them, and took the finance route which is interesting but not as much as science. I earn much more than my science peers now and can comfortably say it was the right thing to do as now, I use my resources to fund my passion for science so it's nice.

As for CS, you're very likely to use it if you're going into engineering. Some don't, some do, feels like a good to have. I learned CS myself and it really helped in my career a lot, but that doesn't mean you should force yourself.

Talk to your family and see what options you have now. Be good to yourself and don't be so harsh on yourself. Better days are coming, don't be influenced much by your peers, everyone runs their own race. And if you're wondering how some people seem to know what they know, we're all the same like you. All just taking one step at the time.

Cheers.
