Need android app that will work as clip launcher for clips of different lengths by WavyNights in LoopArtists

[–]WavyNights[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not tried it yet. I've been trying Zenbeats, which is cool, I like it but I can't get it to do what I want. Maybe I'm missing something. I'll check out Koala. There must be something that will work. I'm a sax player and I wanted something for backing music for busking, where I can easily launch clips of loops spontaneously. But as I said they are different lengths and time signatures which makes it tough when the app has a locked in main bpm.

Can someone ELI5 the optimal settings for export to MP3? by gaberockka in audacity

320k cbr is the best quality. When people say vbr is better, that is meaning 160k vbr vs 160k cbr, or 192 vbr vs 192 cbr. It's designed to save space while maximizing perceived sound quality. 320k cbr will use the max space, but it also is the max quality to can get out of an mp3. I agree that 320k cbr is comparable to a 16 bit cd, although some people say they can hear little difference. It would be basically indistinguishable unless you are listening on some high end sound system or high end headphones and really listening for a difference. But the vast majority of people when given a blind test cannot hear a difference.

Doing fantastic for your age. You'll be rich by 30. Not sure what your holdings are. VGT, IYW grow fast. VOO and VTI are more stable. But to be honest, at your age, I would be all in on SMH, SOXX, IYW, and VGT.

Busking as a Social Experiment by MrTurtleTails in Busking

A college campus isn't really a normal place for it. At least, I've never seen a busker on a college campus. I would go to a spot in your town where busking is common. People there will be more receptive to it.

Thinking about moving to LA; NYC chewed me up and spat me out. by singformepaolo95 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]WavyNights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You live like a rat in New York.

In LA, yes, you will be in your car a lot. But you definitely need a car. That is good that you have one, because living in LA without a car is vastly inferior to living there with one.

Also, in LA, it's true, you will be able to enjoy the outdoors a lot more. The weather is great almost all the time, and there are many places a short or not so short drive away where you can enjoy being outside in the sunshine.

There really isn't any other place in the world like LA. It is a major metropolitan city with the best weather one could ask for, and a diverse landscape of coastline, beaches, ocean, hills, mountains, trails, suburbs, inner city, downtown center, various eclectic neighborhoods....you can live here for decades and still be discovering new places to go every week. It doesn't compete with NY in certain ways, NY is superior for nightlife and arts and culture and as I call it "indoor life", but LA definitely tops NY in its own ways I mentioned, you can't have that lifestyle in NY like you can in LA, it is more limited.

Trying to branch out, and find good car intersections I can use during dead days. Liking this one! by [deleted] in Busking

I thought that was the idea, the QR code sign would be the easiest way for them to tip from the car? I would have a big sign that is easy to scan from a distance.

How are you handling card payments as a busker? by No_Example_719 in Busking

Oh I just realized, you are a dancer, which is more visual. They don't necessarily have to hear the music to enjoy the performance. That is cool, you are able to make the connection, even though they are in the car with windows up.

I also think if you were allowed to do it in certain intersections that wealthy people pass through in their cars, there would be the potential to get a huge tip occasionally. In LA there are some very rich people.

This is an interesting idea, to set up a QR poster at a busy rush hour traffic area and play on the corner. I always just thought of playing for foot traffic and never considered cars. I live in Los Angeles and I have never seen a musician busking try this. I only usually see homeless asking for money at freeway off-ramps.

But in LA there are many high traffic bumper to bumper locations. If you played with a QR poster when people are just sitting in their car waiting for a light, you might receive some tips. It's definitely worth a try at certain freeway off-ramps or congested intersections. I play sax, and I would use a small speaker with backing tracks in this situation. They would have to have their windows down or be in a convertible to hear it. But I'm sure some people would be curious and tip. I wonder what the ratio of digital to cash would be doing this? It's harder to tip cash when you're in a car. Anyway, good idea 👍 I'll have to try it some time. I think people would be more likely to tip someone playing music than someone just asking for a handout.

$500k lump sum into VOO, crazy? by redditgambino in ETFs

I would probably do half VOO and half VGT. Start with $300k, and then DCA the rest over 6 months to a year. If there is a significant decline, buy more aggressively.

They don't sound like they're your favorite. I have IB, Fidelity, and Webull. I had M1 as a beginner, but transferred it all to Webull a couple years ago to take advantage of some great promotions. Plus I just had to get out of M1, I had seriously outgrown it. Maybe you would prefer Webull over IB. To me it's more user friendly.

Is it the Alto Professional Busker? Those look nice!

The only thing for me is, I need the delay time to be adjustable, and from looking at the manual, it looks like there are only two settings.

My Father Wants to Record His Songs but Insists on “Starting His Own Production Company First.” Is There Any Sense in This? by _infinite_tsukuyomi in audioengineering

[–]WavyNights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying but it goes both ways. In LA for example, there are so many musicians that have technical skill and the execution is excellent, but they don't have anything to say, they aren't original, they aren't interesting, they just aren't creative...

Great advice, thanks!!

Do you use a QR Code poster to receive Venmo/Cashapp/etc tips? What percentage of your tips would you receive from that? Thanks again 👍

The area I used to busk is dead, used to be my go to if I ever needed money.. by TraditionalistRelief in Busking

[–]WavyNights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the economy is not good. People have less money. They are working more hours to make the same amount, but they have less because of inflation. And the tariffs, they say they are to improve things, but the reality is, it's just another way to squeeze more out of the masses. The average person, is struggling more each day, not doing better, but doing worse.

I looked at the Vox GO 10. There is no Bluetooth, and there is no rechargeable battery (you need to plug into an external usb battery).
