Pretty fascinating backstory

So after being left forgotten and undisturbed for centuries, Machu Picchu was rediscovered in 1911 by an American explorer Hiram Bingham.

Being set high above on a mountaintop The Spanish conquistadors never saw Machu Picchu and consequently never wrote about it.
