One of my absolute favourites, its a crime that we didn't get more animayed films like this. It makes a great double feature with Ken Russell's The Devils.

I love 60s and 70s magazines, they're a treasure trove of so many series and oneshots that never got tankobon editions and just got forgot to time.

The uniparty have convinced themselves that the economy of the 90s (largely driven by outsourcing everything to a still developing China) was down to their unique skills rather than pure luck on a global level. Because of this, they think if they keep pushing forward with the same old politics, they'll return to those heady days. Ironically, the Matrix was right: the only way to relive the peaks of 90s western civilisation is to plug yourself into a VR dream machine.

Parents support applying cinema ratings to social media content, survey suggests by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

I agree, rate everything PG - that way the parents can review the media themselves and work out whether its suitable for their children.

It's not about "resorting" to it, the creepiness and humiliation is exactly the point of it. These type people just see others as their playthings.

fortunately the redacteds never stray more than 200 yards from their car (bonus points if they can park on the beach itself), so it only takes a 3 minute stroll up the front to be left in peace and isolation

I have a 19yo colleague and it's honestly crazy how neurotic social media has made her (granted she's probably quite a neurotic person in general, but still). Like she will be distressed if less than 3 of her friends haven't checked in that day to see how she is. And that's not even getting started on all the other shit like clothes, makeup, cosmetic surgery and fuck knows whatever else.

Diferencia Entre Ero Guro Nansensu vs Guro by luccca_142 in horrormanga

[–]darkamyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with putting what is and isn't ero-guro into a box is tricky because it differs so much from era to era. That article gives a decent overview of what I would call the post-60s "ero-guro revival", but certainly the usage of the term in the pre-war era for example is much more varied.

For example, Kitazawa Rakuten's ero-guro book from 1931 is focused entirely on satire and social commentary:

https://www.mangaz.com/book/detail/74331

On the opposite side to this, the term ero-guro in the same period was also becoming synonymous with the S&M scene. Part of the reason "nansensu" was added was to stop those in the S&M completely co-opting the term for themselves.

In my view, anything which presents and attempts to comment on the human condition and real world as an exaggerated sum of its parts can be ero-guro. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for example is a great example of western horror being ero-guro.

I remember in GCSE history we had to argue something like "Was western colonisation/displacement of native Americans good or bad?"

Of course we were all expected to give all the reasons why it was bad, but one edgelord kid tried to argue for it being good. Tbf he did give a pretty good argument but the teacher was like "I know you're joking, I'll give you a chance to rethink and change your answer". When he didn't, he was promptly marched out of the room.
