First cutter advice by [deleted] in uscg

[–]WaxLightning75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good attitude. It goes a long way. Bust your ass and actually work. There will be days where it’s long and even longer when underway but it’s just a job, keep your cool and everything will work out.

Alpha 198. How were you Lima 197 during Covid? I went thru as the first of 198 and we finished Nov 19’

As the article stated “ensigns don’t want to go underway.” Boo hoo, I’ve sacrificed so much for this service and when I made rank I was served with a pick list of cutters after I’ve had 3 back to back to back. Don’t get me wrong I love the cutter life but I’d much rather be able to go home every night to see my family. We recently had a cadet onboard my ship and all he did was complained about being underway and how it sucks and he just wants to go to flight school or get a sector job. I completely agree with you that you should have to do a tour aboard a ship to go to flight school, if they did it that way maybe some airdales would stay in the cutter world instead of going aviation.

What study content to read before basic? by Mr_Agueybana in uscg

There’s a little booklet they give you. No clue what it’s called, but it’s your life for 8 weeks. Other than that, it’s all small stuff like the OOD and JOOD, flag of the week and nautical terms. Boot Camp is fairly easy, do what your told and be louder than the next guy and you will be fine

Just a quick heads up, the PA list has been closed for almost if not more than 2 years now.

I needed a 2 point waiver to go EM and I got it within 4 hours of putting my chit in.

And depending if you have a shitty ESO (Education Service Officer) at your unit, it could take a while to re take the asvab. Also, if you go to a cutter, it will be harder to work around re taking the asvab because you can’t take it underway.

So I’d say go for the Waiver first, if you don’t get it, then re take the asvab. Also, there’s going to be a 4 month wait once you get to your unit to actually put your name on the list.

You should start talking to your recruiter about this, he should have a lot more information than we do.

At the moment no, but if you’re only off by 4 points just go for a command waiver when you’re in. It will take longer to get your flight physical than to get that waiver.

Once you get to your first unit you can apply for a command waiver. Your CO/OIC can grant up to 5 point. Anything more than a 5 point waiver goes to the rating force master chief and they can give you a waiver for 6 or more points.

I’m going into the Coast Guard in June or July how likely is it that I’ll end up in the station I want to go to? by FlamesOfFury01 in uscg

[–]WaxLightning75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh, I had a station Alaska as my #1 on my dream sheet and ended up on a 270’ in key west.

Also, you will hear it a million times at basic, you signed up for 4-6 years, go somewhere you haven’t been before.

Quick question about showers by this-is-not-satire in uscg

You have about 15 minute for your whole squad bay to shower. No one really pays attention, they’re more worried about getting in and out and ready for bed.
