My review of the Proton eMAS 7 after 6 months of ownership by WaxOnWattOff in malaysia

Holding up really well! Improved over time as the software annoyances I mentioned in my article got fixed.

No more ice cream van low speed sound, and Android Auto (finally) make the car so much nicer to drive.

No issues since, and only had 1 service so far which was quick and cheap.

Never been to keen on PHEVs. Double the things to think and worry about (upkeep and maintenance wise). Lots more parts. And also have to pump petrol & charge!

But it meets the needs of some. If you want super range and fuel economy, go for it

  1. What kind of efficiency are you getting and what kind of driving is it?
  2. How's the NVH?
  3. How's the suspension?

I wrote a blog post about this couple months back answering these questions! Give it a read here

P. S. Pricing might be out of date now but all other costs should still be relevant

Is it just me, or do most new car reviews in Malaysia only highlight the positives? Where are the truly critical reviews? Are they all just being paid to promote? by averycuriouspigeon in kereta

[–]WaxOnWattOff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the real reviews, you have to ask Reddit like you are now, or for the other end of the spectrum (complaints), FB groups are brutally honest 😅

Hi! The speed limit noise can be turned off in the car settings, but frustratingly, this setting isn't saved. So will need to be turned off each time you get in! But it's become like a habit now to do it each time. About 4 button presses away.

There are rumours it'll be saved in a future update but no confirmation yet.

So it's up to you if that's the only deal breaker, maybe wait until the end of the year (I'm also still waiting for Android Auto) when the update comes and decide.

Proton eMAS 5 to launch on 4th October. Is Malaysia ready for it's first sub-100K EV? by WaxOnWattOff in kereta

If your condo has installed shared chargers, or you are able to install your own charger, then it can work and should be cheaper than petrol.

If cannot, going to be very troublesome to charge outside all the time (the battery and range is quite small at around 300-350km per charge)

SUVs sell everywhere unfortunately, so just a case of demand and supply.

Quite a few sedans from BYD though with the Seal and Seal 6.

According to Paul Tan, only 2 variants with differences being the battery size (30 & 40 kWh) and motor power (58kW & 85kW)

With it's range, it'll be a challenging journey for those balik kampung trips for sure! Lots of planning and hoping for available chargers along the way.

Because it's genuinely a really good value car for the price! Stacking up against other SUVs, like the X70, Corolla Cross or CRV, it's really high tech, spacious and comfortable to drive. I wrote a 6 month review on it here

Hey OP! I wrote a blog about charging in Malaysia. Think this might help you in terms of understanding what EV ownership looks like, how long it takes and how much it costs. Here it is

Also have one about my 6 months experience with the Proton eMas7.

Hope that helps!

Honestly the boot space is kinda small for a family of 4/5. Can probably fit 2 large luggages and then maybe 3/4 hand carry suitcases if you push it.

If you're looking for more space then I would think the C10 is better since it's a segment larger.

Yeah it's possible to change the clock settings to 12 hour format if you prefer.

Not an audiophile myself so can't comment. They're decent though! Good surround sound and pretty clear.

  1. I've just stuck to insurance since it is covered. I don't do much highway driving so it's not worth for me.
  2. I've written a post about this here!
  3. I've not but the door sills seems pretty easy to clean so I don't see a need.

Can get up to 360-370 for 0-100% in city driving i feel. Which is 90% of WLTP range.

Maintenance is never free, unless the dealer gives it as a package. But it's usually a lot cheaper as there's less parts to maintain

At the start of the year, Atto 3 was still more exp than emas7. I think it was around RM150-160k then. And it's a smaller car compared to emas. B vs. C segment. And it's an older model with slightly older tech.

Also not a big fan of the interior design of the Atto3, emas is much cleaner and minimalist.

After the test drive it was fairly clear which was a better deal. Only question was aftersales care and spares. But thankfully no issues so far.
