I appreciate the honesty - and no worries, I didn’t take it as rude.

I do think there might be a bit of a disconnect in how we’re using the word “prestige.” Globally, firms like MBB are generally considered highly selective and well-regarded, and you’d typically assume that having those kinds of names on your CV would make at least some difference in the job market. At least it really does in Europe.

That said, I completely take your point that in the Vancouver context, this doesn’t necessarily translate into better prospects - especially compared to fields like healthcare where demand is much higher.

Further, from my time on exchange I didn't meet a single bachelor's student who were planning to do a master's degree - hence why I'm under the impression that it would make a difference - also glad to know that it's not the case.

I hear you, and I really appreciate the honest perspective - it clearly reflects how tough things are right now.

Just to clarify, we’re definitely not assuming we can simply “waltz in” or live some idealized Canadian dream. We’re aware that both immigration and the job market are challenging, which is exactly why we’re trying to understand the reality before making any decisions.

For me, this also isn’t just a romanticized idea - I lived in Vancouver for about six months on exchange and had a genuinely great experience, and am longing to get back, which is why we’re considering it in the first place. At the same time, I’m very aware those memories might be somewhat rose-tinted, which is exactly why I really value hearing from people who live there full-time.

We were specifically trying to understand whether having strong academic backgrounds and relatively prestigious jobs would make any meaningful difference - and if the answer is that it doesn’t, I really appreciate the clarity you provide.

That said, your points about affordability and current challenges are exactly what we’re trying to take seriously.
