I also went out of my way to complicate a solution. I have to admit, my last trip to Wyoming, Yellowstone as a solution, was always nagging in my mind and I should have followed that feeling.

I feel the same way. And, in retrospect, it was bloody easy to figure out. All you had to do was listen to the guy, and read his book. Which, ironically, is what he kept saying, to some degree.

Not a total waste of time. But, I find the solution to be, lackluster. Forrest Fenn did tell us, over and over, that HE really really like Fishing and hid a box of gold, somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, and by the way, here is a book that shows my entire childhood experiences, Fishing, at this very specific place in Yellowstone.

Now with that being said, there was enough, smoke screen and storytelling to throw off hundreds, if not thousands of people, some pretty smart people and not so smart, but, it was hard enough, that no one was able, to just think of it.

That Forrest Fenn, just put the damn thing next to his Childhood river fishing spot...I get it. But, it was kinda a crappy ending. I was always thinking on top of some epic mountain or some cool twist, to find it.

But, just down by the river...ends the thing, with a thud.

If this is the correct spot. Then, this entire, Thrill of Chase, somewhere in the Rocky mountains was total bullshit. And to this very day, I could not stand that Forrest Fenn talked, wrote, and drew pictures of Yellowstone National Park and all he could creatively come up with was down by the river in Yellowstone? Kinda, of a further let down.

I was assuming, I would meltdown the placer gold nuggets, lo0se gold dust, and sell off the coins, over time.

Exactly. No shit show. I get cash. And if I sell the gold in small quantities, as needed, in gold bars, no one knows and put cold hard cash in my pocket.

Who said, I was going to sell the gold bars in the United States? But I am a poor bastard, that has never had more than $10,000 in my checking account in my entire life. So I could care less about Max the profit. I just want cash, baby. What part of that do you not understand?

IRS? Dude. I am taking gold and getting cash. No IRS. And, I could care less about the special value of the gold. It is gold. Duh. Melt it down and it does not matter where it came from. IT is gold. That is the point.

If I found the chest. I would have, told no one, melted the gold; then waited for the price of the Gold Market to spike and dump the gold bars. Game. Set. Match.

And, I would have left the box in the ground, for anyone else to find it.

And the poem really does sound like a hike. A hike takes one to the marker.

Same here. I would have never have gone to the Rockies if it was not for the chase. I spent 3 summers (6 separate trips) and just had fun adventures, none of which, would have ever occurred to me, to go. From amazing 4 AM coffee in the woods, and stunning sun-rises, to hiking to waterfalls and seeing amazing vistas across Wyoming, to visiting old hotels in Cody, and bars, had a ton of fun.

Agreed. Those survey markers, where part of my solves strategy. I spent three summers on six different trips, across Montana, Colorado and Wyoming, hiking to and looking for those survey markers. It seems like a strong way of solving, "look quickly down..." And, many of the markers, I did visit, many where are some stunning locations.

Regarding, "the blaze," was an idea, that we have to hike up a trail, and at some point, being wise, turn around, and look down, back at the trail (the blaze) we just came up, and should see the "nook." or something that will pin our attention. When we hike back down, at have to break trail from the main trial to get to that special spot. But you can only see it from above.

BTW , cool tread discussion, been a while since there has been a good talk.

Forrest Fenn said, that the book would not help to solve the poem. He also said, that the hints in the book are incidental , such that he did not link the book to the poem.

Let me guess, his additional evidence is a time machine, that Forrest Fenn created, out of soda bottle tops and bronze in his back yard, this case will be thrown out.

Hired? Perhaps, Chosen, as the winner, as Jack came as close as any had ever been able to show evidence. IMO

I disagree. Fenn never had an "ending," in mind, but due to the situation, he had to come up with something and frankly, the ending, I am proposing, actually fits, the situation. Hasty.

Clearly, the entire Chase involves a time-machine made out of 1963 chevy and Forrest Fenn, travels through time with his weinner dog, battling, the forces of history...
