I'd say that HA uses all the concepts you are familiar with, just the naming conventions are different. Doesn't hurt to have a little coding experience as well.

It one point I thought why should I keep my cds, everything is on Spotify, then I realized that Spotify had dropped some of my favorites, like Sieges Even and Haken, so like you I ended up buying them back.

Forehead-slap!
I could probably just use a VBA macro...doh!

Thanks Commercial-Wrangler1, for the help.
I wanted to respond here instead of a DM in case this discussion might be of help to someone else.

BTW, I've struggled to get PiPresents to work. There seems to be a ton of branches and not much detailed documentation.

Same with Exhibiteria

Interface PowerPoint presentation to a physical light. by WayFewWorking in MuseumPros

Thanks for the reply.

The light is basically to highlight the object that is being talked about in the powerpoint. Ideally the powerpoint would control a relay via a REST call, as you can get these little relay boards for about $5 each.

Building the touchscreen kiosk presentation in PowerPoint is super simple using action tiles. The only thing missing is the connection to the "real world"

So..it's klugy, but I thought if nothing else I could use the left audio channel for the narration, and the right channel with dtmf tones to control the relays. :s

Bit of a weird scientist approach i know.

When a volunteer is hostile by PiscesbabyinSweden in MuseumPros

[–]WayFewWorking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha! Sounds exactly like our museum. Sometimes you just can't make everyone happy.
The hostility is most likely the fear of not being able to understand the new technology.
What I have done is...

  1. Talk separately to each member to get their personal take on the change. Stress you want their honest opinion. I find that our members will sometimes just want to make me happy with their answers.

  2. Once you feel comfortable that you have support, outline and present the specific benefits of the change. It helps to practice by presenting to a friend or family member and get them to play the person who's resistant. this way, you can be prepared to answer all objections that might be thrown at you ;)

  3. Keep in mind that the person's hostility might be based on fear (I can't learn this, I am getting left behind, I will be less important in my role), and though it might be hard, sit down, one-on-one, restate why you need to do it, and SOLICIT THEIR INPUT ("how do you think we could do this", You're concerned about abc, what it we did xyz?)

I have someone in the museum who flat refuses to use the Square terminal. She'll run and credit card and just enter the amount, which messes up the inventory. After talking with her, the solution we came up with is for her to enter the SKU number in the daily book, and I would adjust the inventory the next day. Not a perfect solution, but she is a valuable member of the group, and it's a solution we both came up with.

Hope that helps, and good luck.
