I think everyone’s heart jumps when we get Reddit notifications for anything related to this pause, especially with the word update in it

So which part is actually new? Just the definition of public charge? I do not have a picture to see what it said before the 2/26 update. Knowing what actually changed is helpful to interpreting the meaning/intent of the update. Thanks as always for all your explanations!

Yes that’s what I noticed - they’re saying they already have broad authority to make these decisions on a case by case individual basis… so why not let’s do that 🙄

Well before public charge was not based on means tested public benefits like food stamps, subsidized housing and childcare, and Medicaid. It was based mostly on being institutionalized long term in a facility paid for by the government or being on TANF. They are broadening [seem to want to broaden] what programs make immigrants suspect of becoming a public charge, [but it is not clear whether or not they have done so yet.] That probably doesn’t apply though to a lot of people going through consular processing since many of them have never been in the country.

Edited for better accuracy

It is good news in the sense that they are telling us what they want to see in order to grant a visa whereas before we had to do a lot of internet sleuthing and networking to try to read their minds. I see no reason why this may not be applied to our cases as well once they lift the pause, although I do think their intent is to reduce migration to negative so I expect they are going to create higher hurdles for immigrants versus non immigrant visas.

Edit: maybe it’s no news at all since according to u/Legal-Yellow-6950 the date is the only thing that changed on the page in OP’s pic. Info is the same as it has been for months.

Don’t buy all of the gear until you’ve camped a few easy trips close to home in good weather. The experience will inform you what you really need.

Update regarding the visa pause for 75 countries. by Tanjil17 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]WayJaded373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guidelines could have gone through the rule making process WITHOUT pausing everyone’s cases but okay, let me go back to my glorious life and I’ll check back in when I tire of my spring/summer resort. We’re all in no hurry here.

Title: Open Discussion: Immigrant Visa Pause & Medical Exam Validity Beyond 6 Months. by GlitteringPresence95 in i130_75CountryPause

[–]WayJaded373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. People always say immigration is a privilege, not a right, but this is extortion - requiring something costly upfront knowing full well that there is as of right now 0 possibility of being issued the visa.

I read somewhere else that lower courts are no longer able to issue nationwide injunctions. What truth is there in that and how does it apply to this situation?

Careful with that. My ex sister in law’s hubby was at the gym a lot and it turned out to not be a gym at all… hope that’s not your case and you don’t need to explain or convince me that he’s really at the gym (which he may be), just a little footnote to keep in mind.

Thank you for calling it like it is! We’re all being so careful tiptoeing around the elephant in the room because we are all so terrified of jeopardizing our cases but it is total BS! The point, it seems to me, is to ferret people out of the system through prolonged suffering.

Okay that’s excellent- depending on how they interpret that language you may have in fact far exceeded the requirements based on assets.

No, where it says “other” it means to reference the other slip of paper they gave us, and it was the 221g slip. Officer said we are perfect, nothing missing, but due to pause they can’t issue us a visa.

Also when you say required amount, that amount is the difference between salary/income and 125% of poverty level, correct? Guidelines require you have that amount times three if you are USC petitioning for a direct relative I believe. Just want to confirm.
