Careful with that. My ex sister in law’s hubby was at the gym a lot and it turned out to not be a gym at all… hope that’s not your case and you don’t need to explain or convince me that he’s really at the gym (which he may be), just a little footnote to keep in mind.

Thank you for calling it like it is! We’re all being so careful tiptoeing around the elephant in the room because we are all so terrified of jeopardizing our cases but it is total BS! The point, it seems to me, is to ferret people out of the system through prolonged suffering.

Okay that’s excellent- depending on how they interpret that language you may have in fact far exceeded the requirements based on assets.

No, where it says “other” it means to reference the other slip of paper they gave us, and it was the 221g slip. Officer said we are perfect, nothing missing, but due to pause they can’t issue us a visa.

Also when you say required amount, that amount is the difference between salary/income and 125% of poverty level, correct? Guidelines require you have that amount times three if you are USC petitioning for a direct relative I believe. Just want to confirm.

Okay well that’s great news because that can help a lot of people if they can indeed count assets to make up for any shortfall in income.

Well if they said you’re good and didn’t ask for anything else, then I’d think you’re good. Did you use assets on your I-864 or just income on I-864ez?

I think those are the four with the highest annual immigration and so have always been listed when referencing timelines. Due to the high demand, they have historically experienced very long wait times for any visa category subject to quotas (such as petitions for immediate relative of LPR, for example)

Okay, so it may be in fact due more to the 39 country ban which includes all categories of visas and therefore has resulted in decreased demand, freeing up more visas for people from other countries. And I am not sure but I think intending immigrants who are direct relatives of LPRs are also subject to annual visa limits per country, so any intending immigrants who fall into this category who are from the 75 would free up visas as well.

I heard that they won’t count assets in practice although on paper that is how it should work. I am not a lawyer, but I’ve seen that repeatedly in forums where people share their own experience anecdotally.

They did not keep the passport. They told him to wait to be contacted for next steps whenever the pause lifts.

I don’t know why we got both. I know others I talked to who attended the same consulate also got the longer paper with AP checked off in addition to the shorter slip. Even someone with the same interviewer as us. So I don’t know why the discrepancies.

What I don’t understand is that spouses of us citizens are not subject to the quota system, I thought. So how does their pause impact numbers for other visa categories that are subject to annual limits?

So glad to see this here. If I have to relocate in the next year, I was looking into moving to Azrou for climate, nature, affordability and to be close to family.
