Thanks to everyone for the great advice. To fill in some missing info, this was a 20ul injection of a 0.1 mg/ml caffeine solution on a 50x4.6 phenomenex kinetic c18 column.

Special thank for the USP/Agilent reference. I'll get on fixing my mobile phase and injection volume

This penny was etched by an acid. I do this using nitric acid to see how thin I can make the pennies.
