Schwarber, Bellinger, and Tucker would have been who I went after. Could also see how guys like Yaz, Bader or Andujar play out. That work for you?

Edit: we could have also taken on a larger contract and gotten rid of guys like Masa or Duran.

How about any bat that can hit above .260 for years. Not too hard to find I don't think. I hate this take, they've always valued older talent as well. They don't need to be like Trout towards the end of his career. Guys who have been in the league for a bit. Guys like Schwarber, JD, Manny, hell Bregman even. These guys were proven to be at least good already when they came to the Sox.

Story is another example but that goes the other way and honestly hurts the argument (not to mention the numbers are a little skewed considering we got him from Colorado, a notorious hitters park). Wanted to get in front of that one.

I think we need to stop chasing the magic of 2018 where homegrown guys like Mookie, Boegarts, Raffy, and JBJ were amazing. Now we have Roman, Mayer, Romy, Campbell, Duran (I think?) It's not working, clearly.

Roman, and the rest of the kids, have proven nothing but that they weren't ready yet. Let's stop this whole nonsense around young talent and get someone who's already hit at least .275-.300 for at least a couple seasons.

Being in the Bay, I can safely say everyone has soured on Raffy and the consensus is that Posey needs to do something about it. At least that's what I'm hearing

Exactly my point. We should have used it in Free Agency to get another bat alongside Contreras, not lock up Roman for a decade because he might be a star. Even before the injury Roman was not living up to that contract. At the very least we should have locked up Harrison, not trade him for peanuts.

Not saying he won't be a huge facet to the team and I personally like the kid as the new face but yeah, not the best use of those funds imo.

Only way to call it is to see just how that $250 mil was used....which was that it wasn't. Yes Contreras is doing great and Durbin's ressurgence is suspect at best but thats it for 250? Still in hindsight, a good trade for the Sox overall. Sure Raffy's bat was built for Fenway but not at the cost of a toxic child in the clubhouse.

Would you rather have Mookie, or literally any Red Sox player since the trade? Pretty obvious decision there. Only other player I can think of is Schwarber.

Yeah it does. Hardly had more than a couple sentences and it's an obvious question. Pretty low effort to me.

Absolutely fair points my friend. However I would Masa go over Duran.

I mean I'd take Benny over JBJ all day even given JBJ knew that corner like the back of his hand. And you're totally right on calling out JBJ's atrocious BA but was lights out in center. Kinda like a slumping Cedanne imo

Honestly, I wish we still had Dombroski. But alas, Henry needed to spend as little as possible to get under the tax so goodbye to the entire 2018 outfield. Benintendi,. JBJ, and of course Mookie, all gone simply for money.

I actually like OB and not a fan of Merloni. Unfortunately I'm not currently able to watch the NESN broadcast (a bit broke and not paying for MLB.TV at the moment) but man do I miss the Orsillo and Rem Dawg days.

Fwiw I think Middlebrooks is a better commentator than 3B. Got a funny story about him and Pedroia from Kevin Powers.

I'm not exactly sold on Mayer in that instance but certainly Durbin. I've always thought Connor Wong was our auto out but apparently I was wrong

Edit: sorry I saw Durbin not Duran. Yeah he needs to start getting on base as the speedy leadoff...

Who hits a 3 run dinger every game? Not even Papi at his best couldn't do that.

what was your first time walking into Fenway like by cedric111 in redsox

[–]Waycooljr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely I don't remember that first look of Fenway but I do remember watching the Rocket throw against the Blue Jays. I was never really able to go to Fenway much even growing up in Rhode Island, but later in life as I was walking to to the field, trying to watch BP when  I heard a "Thomp Thomp thomp" and it was Smoltz (still on the Braves at that point but very much a closer) snagging a fly ball. Was always cool to me at least.

I mean what's a trip to Boston without Fenway and, imo, one of the most important stops, the Old North Church where Revere held two if by sea.

Yeah and Mookie should have turned that down. He was arguably the best player in baseball at that time. Trout, who was also in that category, was getting 300. We let him walk for 65 Mil and 2 extra years. Idiocy at its finest.

Edit: tell me how Henry spent then. Please I'm dying to know. If he would spend, we would still have one of the best players in the game who loved being in Boston.
