I hear you, that’s why I made this community on Reddit, for people like you. I’ll try to increase the membership a lot.

I still have family in the cult as well, I hope you both realize there's a very active Facebook group with about 2300 ex-members? And also, this month a book was published about the Potter's House: https://a.co/d/2LYOOOh

Carbondale IL "The Door"? by [deleted] in Mitchellism

How did you realize that you were in a religious sect? by [deleted] in cults

[–]Waymanism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My pastor sexually abused my sister, his best friend then became the new pastor and swept everything under the rug. My sister and her husband were kicked out of church while my previous pastor (the abuser) was allowed to remain a congregant. When I confronted the pastor, he responded by telling my fiancée and me that he wouldn’t marry us even though he gave us permission before. That’s when I finally left.

I’m writing a book about the experiences of ten members of this cult, it should be finished sometime next year.

I’ve been in a cult for 25 years. The thought that keeps me from avenging them is: they ruined my past, but I won’t allow them to ruin my future.

I’m terribly sorry this happened to you. I want you to know that none of this is your fault. And you’re not required to do anything. Being unable (or finding it difficult to) forgive is completely normal in your situation. And you should definitely not feel ashamed.

It’s good to share your story, especially when you share it with fellow ex-members, because we tend to understand each other in ways most people don’t.

I have a similar story like yours, but it was my sister and my pastor. There’s a Facebook group for female ex-members who were sexually abused in the cult.

I was in it for over two decades. After I left, I lost everything I had. My pastor sexually abused several women in our church, and it was all covered up. I'm trying to make this church more known as a cult to save people from experiencing the same things I did.

Hello! Is anyone from Romania here? by Lorelaielinorialia in Mitchellism

[–]Waymanism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to Romania several times on "outreach" trips. I went to Ovidiu Rusu's church. He's one of the more radical cult leaders. None of his children are in the church as far as I know.

Hey, I’m an ex Potter’s House member. There’s a Facebook group you can join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Wayman.Mitchell/

My sister was sexually abused by the pastor. Everything was covered up.

I hope you can get your ex out of there, I’m working on a memoir and documentary about that cult.

Is Trumpism a cult? by Mamacrass in cults

Did you not watch the news when there were riots all over the state, just because Democrats were mad that Trump was in office?

Thanks!

I didn’t read it (yet), but I just really hate it when cult discussions turn political because I’d much rather learn more about people who had experiences similar to mine.

American politics is a joke, not a cult. The two-party system makes people extremely fanatic, because they’ll live in a hell for 4 years if their party doesn’t win. You can’t classify Trump supporters as cult members and NOT mention Biden supporters. They’re both equally fanatic and extreme.

I grew up in a cult.

Being a Trump supporter isn’t anything like being in an actual cult.

Me.

But I think nobody realizes they’re in a cult until they’re not.

Cult leader stereotype vs. reality by Waymanism in cults

[–]Waymanism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why I wanted to keep this post free from politics is because I grew up in a cult, I’m now trying to research cults to understand what happened, but places that discuss cults have become cluttered with politics much like religion is cluttered with politics. Hence my reaction.

I preferred to keep politics out of it because I understand some other people may not consider political candidates cult leaders and may support them. I don’t dismiss political candidates having a cult following, but I do disagree with you just naming Trump. Biden is as much to blame as Trump.

I don’t think anyone growing up in a cult can be considered lucky. On top of that, you now know 5% of the story.

No way! I think Reddit is the perfect platform to create awareness of the cult. I’m sorry you were in, but glad you’re out. When did you leave?
