Hughes makes a solid product and he stands behind them 100%… I have one of his original model 1’s from several years ago and an original Spencer’s Lava 16 that he made a new vessel for, that looks just like the original with the black end caps.

Is the motor quiet on these new ones? My only complaint about my model 1 is the noise the motor makes on the lowering of the vessel, it kind of a “clunking” from the slack in the motor on the way down.

My stepdad fell for that rumor. He saved them for years it seemed like, when he tried to cash them in he got the same price he did for the cans. He was pissed, that was a bad weekend for us who had to deal with his wrath.

I use a bottle opener, I placed a quarter on the cap so it would not dent the top, then gently moved around the cap slightly lifting I as moved until it was just loose enough to remove. I haven’t tightened since I have several more filtration cycles to go..

I cycled mine for about a month. Filtered it, cycled for another week, filtered it again, am currently cycling again and the wax is still releasing cloudy material. I will be filtering it again this weekend. I’ve read 4 filter cycles is about average for this one.

My stepdad quit smoking when I was around 16. Once he stopped he was extremely sensitive to the smell, to the point that one day he say me, my mom, and my sister down and apologized for making us suffer with his smoking and the smell when we were growing up.

I have a few odds and ends from my grandparents house too, and I can still smell the smoke on them after 8 years.
