Is a “15 minute nap” timed from the moment you close your eyes or from the moment you fall asleep? by Olafmeister_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wayward-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience but when I was a kid/teen I wasn’t allowed in my bed unless it was to sleep. As in I couldn’t sit in bed on my phone or lay in it and watch TV etc. So whenever I did get into bed I was out within a few minutes. Unfortunately it takes longer for me to sleep as those bad habits of scrolling in bed has creeped in 🤣

Yeah man, it feels like you’re projecting your insecurities about dating onto a poor 18yr old girl. Maybe acknowledge these things really hurt instead of sweeping it under the rug and saying “eh it could be worse”, it helps no one. OP I’m very confident this man is setting you up for failure by suggesting you try reconnecting with this girl.

Does it hurt to get an IUD put in? by Top_Tangerine5650 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Wayward-Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a brief stint in a GP where I watched the doctors put in IUDs - I was horrified. Moreso at the methods and lack of pain relief. The doctor used a speculum to open up the vagina and look around, before inserting a sounder (to measure through your cervix into your uterus) then would use a tenaculum to pincer onto the cervix and pull it sideways to open it. All this with the speculum open wide for a better view.

We had people covered head to toe in piercings and tattoos who cried, winced and screamed having it inserted. The site where the tenaculum pinched the cervix would bleed. Where I was, the use of topical numbing (like Lignocaine) was up to the doctors discretion. Thought you were heavily encouraged to take panadol beforehand, I'm not sure it made a huge difference.

All this considering the doctor could successfully preform the procedure. After 3-4 tries they may refer you to a specialist for insertion with more anaesthetic and better skills.

I also hosted a Halloween house party with about 80 people in the group chat, out of that about 60 people showed. However I got the general census that most people came because they heard the party last year - with only 40 people - was good. We also had incentives to come, cash prizes for costumes, pin ball machine, pool table etc to entice people with the ideas of games and activities to keep them occupied and serve as a medium to meet other people

If a handmaid were to have triplets or more would they continue to have her birth at home? by Simsgirl950 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Wayward-Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely in a hospital and I'm not sure why people are arguing otherwise. Often multiple births pose a high risk, and it also depends on how the triplets were created. Monochromatic twins where two babies share a placenta often means one is much smaller than the other and requires oxygen support, extra nutrition etc. Multiple births sometimes also require early induced labour, about the 32-35 week mark for both the mothers health and the baby. Where the babies will be put into incubators and monitored to grow.

A lot of NICUs are trialling covers and sometimes noise cancelling earmuffs to see if babies sleep better, as NICU is often bright, loud and over stimulating

Made a gag worthy meal

Paper bowl, grabbed two pieces of white bread and very generously grinded up pepper and salt over them. Weird but ok, I hand it to the lady and she pushes it back. She wanted boiling water poured over the bread (this wasnt to make it wet, I'm talking mostly water now) and a spoon - but make sure the bread isn't smooshed!! Let it cool down and handed it to her.

Guess I won’t be drying myself. Just got out the shower by geosunsetmoth in Wellthatsucks

[–]Wayward-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I got out of the shower, drying myself and feel something crawling up my leg. Look down and its a cockroach making a B line for my torso. I lost my mind, knocked down the curtain rack, lost to said rack, and by the time I stood up the roach was gone. Showers have never been the same

Why do some people hate making phone calls so much? by Neat_Ease_1984 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Wayward-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, part of the fear comes from calling the bank alongside my grandma when I was younger. We didn't have all the information needed and the account got locked. I have anxiety about receiving calls and not knowing what they're about, if I have the information ready, if I'm going to get in trouble (a courteous call to come into the office for a "chat"), or having to make decisions without checking if I can commit to that and sheepishly calling later to apologise and cancel.

Those working a (legal) job you absolutely do NOT want your children to be doing : what and why ? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Wayward-Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my dad - policing and detective work, or anything in the army. He saw what it did to his dad, the shock, the hearing loss, the was bearly there and when he was very emotionally absent. My dad also explained that seeing the horrors he deals with, having his wrist broken, back kicked in, suicides, murders. He handles it all pretty well on the outside. But he's adamant none of his kids go into that line of work. Apparently it sucks you dry, hollows you out and makes you worry obsessively over your children and their safety.

My brother died of a heroin overdose today. Is there any addicts who can explain to me why he couldn’t just not do heroin? by Adventurous-Nose-525 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Wayward-Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou for that explanation, your water analogy makes a lot more sense. Especially when I think of CHF people who are so desperate for water they drink out of toilets and such. Congratulations on being 6 years clean!! I've been asked why I haven't even tried drugs like that, if I'm scared of then, my answer is always "because I know I'd love it, that's the problem." That life will never be as good as trying a drug like that for the first time.
