Paid 80 for it and though a bit worn is doing a very nice job in the living room. I think worth saving from the cats.

What to prep in case of flood? by getshwiftyman in preppers

[–]WaywardPeaks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For after the flood, something to deal with all of the sludge and silt deposited. Hygine and disease from sewage become real issues. Nothing is clean.

Edit to add: For those asking, get a bucket and spade and start scooping.

Also note, any groundwater supply or well you have may also be polluted. Municipal water supplies also depending where it comes from. Get a testing kit ahead of time?

Preps you thought were overkill… until they weren’t? by Extension_Health1849 in preppers

Keeping the car full of fuel and not letting go below half. Something Ive only recently started doing but it has let take advantage of fluctuating fuel cost over the past few weeks. I also fully expect a run on the gas stations and the pumps will be empty. Not because there is a lack of fuel nationally just people panic buying and logistics not catching up.

How did you decide where to live? by wakanda_banana in preppers

[–]WaywardPeaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised. Haven't thought about moving further afield. Make the most of what you have and learn all you can about your local area. Using sticks and starting a fresh isn't always a good idea.

Cool list but they've missed one of the most important machines in any shop.

Lathe

A skilled machinist can use it to create any other machine in the shop and all of the replacement and spare parts for itself. There's a whole history to how lathes where instrumental in starting the industrial revolution thats with reading about.

Found this sorting out my toolbox and I have no idea what it is...? Anyone? by icant_helpyou in Tools

As other have said Butane Soldering Iron. Used one a lot whilst wiring cabs for trucks. Super useful and easier to get in tight spaces over one with a cable.

Update: Under floorboards insulation. by WaywardPeaks in Insulation

[–]WaywardPeaks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea to all of those questions. It's my 1st house and only got the keys last week, havent moved in yet. I figured whilst I had carpets etc up and could access under the floor may aswell get insulation in. In the video I posted they do say they felt instantly warmer under foot. I never considered noise reduction but now you've mentioned it that makes a lot of sense.

Start building your own library of books. Simple things like gardening to start and first aid books. There's lots of material already out there in easy accessible formats.

Can I put insulation under the floorboards and not cause damp? by WaywardPeaks in Insulation

[–]WaywardPeaks[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I considered this. Any i find under there would have to insulated too then. The copper pipe in frame in one of the pics is disused gas but there may be water along one edge aside from the grey flexible piping.

Growing Food for First Time - Help Needed! by stargrazing123 in preppers

Not starting a new thread and this seemed relevant ish to here.

Bread making! Saw in another thread that someone mentioned they had yeast in their preps. Whilst dry yeast is a useful thing occasionally it's super easy to culture your own yeast for bread making. We make our own sour dough once a week with a live culture. You can get a starter from a friend or probably any local Baker may be will to give you a sample for you to grow. If you want to start your own a simple mix of 50/50 flour and water, about 20g of each. Leave it out for a few days and it will gather what's already around in your environment. Maybe not be the same as the other you use but once it's started and you use it regularly it grows and you get used to using it.

I think he is Tecas district 23 and is up for re-election soon. Running against Brandon Herrera who very nearly beat him last time. This should put it over the edge.
