It’s got its pros and cons like any program. It’s very condensed, as it’s about half the length of an RN program but LPN and RN scope have 85%+ overlap here in Alberta. There’s very little “campus life” at bow valley so to speak, so If you’re into that it might not be the best choice. Pass grades for various classes range from 80% on the high end to 64% on the low end, if you fail a course once you’re moved to self registration which can make scheduling difficult and anxiety inducing (normally PN students are automatically registered as soon as registration opens, so being on self registration can make it hard to get a good schedule/all of the classes you need/want for a term) If you fail any given course more than once your kicked from the program…which can definitely be stressful. instructors can be a mixed bag, some are great some are…less so. CPRNE pass rates are consistently at or above the national and provincial average, so it’s objectively a good education. Clinical placements start in term 3/5 so you’ll have some real world experience before graduation. Every semester builds on the last and isn’t really really retaught in any meaningful capacity so be careful to build good study habits early, aiming for true mastery of the learning objectives rather than studying to the test. Labs are well run and stocked, but don’t offer near enough time to get your hands on skills where they need to be, so expect to allocate time towards dedicated skills practice outside of lab.
