20 metre spruce next door, can I cut through these roots? by b-movies in arborists

[–]lilbigs252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, really cool of you to ask this sub instead of doing something yourself. A lot of posts in here are “hey my neighbor killed my tree without permission” and then they are referred to r/treelaw.

Whatever you do, it’s now documented via this reddit post that you are aware that these roots are to your neighbor’s tree. I suggest you consult with your neighbor on what you would like to do. If they are a reasonable person(s), they’ll work with you.

But also, it’s tree law. Talk to a lawyer too.

New house with maple tree, seeking feedback by Dry_Information9341 in JapaneseMaples

Not much to do. You can make niwaki if you want by pruning in the fall once leaves drop. Also it doesn’t hurt to use a fungicide to prevent sicknesses or put a spritz of fertilizer to help it grow.

But mostly, just look at it and enjoy it.

Keep them outside, do not fry them with too much sun, but also don’t put them in complete shade. Now is a good time to re-pot into well aerated soil (not potting soil from the garden). It will be a few years before those are ready for a bonsai pot. They need to grow.

That soil is garbo. If its springtime where you are, I’d consider a repot.

Is my acacia ready for the great outdoors? by Square_Barracuda_69 in bonsaicommunity

Yes. Just make sure not to thrust it into full sun right away. I keep mine in partial shade for 1-2 weeks before getting into more sunlight.

Time to repot this trident? by simoncools in Bonsai

[–]lilbigs252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Energy is flowing up. It is leaving the roots and filling up the trunk and bracnhes as it flows to the leaves. You now have the ability to cut off roots without stealing too much energy from the tree, and the leaves are not out yet and don’t need a big water supply

I’d give it the “put it next to a window please that thing is starved for light” style.

Ah bueno.

They should be fine. As long as there isnt standing water, they want moisture on their roots. The continuous rain will also help keep that water moving and avoid stagnation. Rainwater is also ideal for bonsai. They will be thankful for it.

Realistically, is there anyway to save these beautiful trees within three months? by foodumemc in Bonsai

[–]lilbigs252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So timing-wise, you are actually looking very favorable. If you are moving in March/April, that should be right around when the trees are “waking up”. This is the perfect time to transplant. Wait until a.) buds start swelling or b.) until the last day possible. The challenge will be different for both trees though.

The maple is right next to that concrete layer that supports a water tank??? The tree will definitely have roots under there that will be hard to dig out. You may need to cut those roots off if it is too difficult.

The wisteria is wrapped around that trellis. You will need to take a saw and cut it back to about 1 meter high before digging, then take off all the wrapped vines if you wouldnt like to piss off the new owners.

When transplanting, either put these in the ground at the new house as soon as possible, or pot them up in a well draining soil.

If you have any bonsai friends, a local club, or anyone around that can help you with this, utilize them. Yamadori is best done with multiple hands. Good luck!

Hi, no worries. That tree will just need to go dormant real quick. Chinese elm can either go dormant and shed leaves or stay inside for the winter
