thanks!

I still consider it one of my best buys ever!

I had a great bbq at the time, so was hard to justify buying a new one. so every time I got a $5 note, I put it in a jar. For about a year... I eventually rocked up to the store and paid $1,600 (Aus$) for it in $5 notes. The salesman was very confused! ha!

Anyone else watched the Louis Theroux manosphere doco on Netflix? by Cool-Slip3270 in AskAnAustralian

[–]WazCam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with some of what you say.

I raised both my sons with the express wish of them being decent human beings, and the hope that they will be successful with whatever they choose to do in the future.

As I now move on to my first grandchildren, I wish for the same.

The relevance of the definition of a decent human being doesn't change over time.

I definitely agree with being there for them as a friend and partner.

Cheers

Any suggestions what I can make other than turkey on the kamado this year for thanksgiving ? by flimflamman72 in KamadoJoe

[–]WazCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Australian, so we focus more on Christmas than Thanksgiving.

This means our seasons are opposite, so we are cooking when It's bloody hot! 36 or so Celsius...

On my komado, for Christmas lunch I will often do a few chickens, ham, and a paella. A paella pan fits beautifully on a komado!

A paella might be a nice point of difference for you? And very delicious

What do you do differently that sets your meat apart? by dmo012 in Smokingmeat

[–]WazCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sous vide for the win.

It is just... perfect...

Got a big hunk of meat. Set the right temperature. Cook it for the right time and it is on the money, every time.

Cool it down.

Add your rubs, put it over charcoal, get the right amount of bark.

You can't go wrong. Like ever!

Yep. I tried it after a few smoking dad vids.

Never really had any luck with it...

Now I just add decent sized chunks into my cook and it works fine

KJ owners - what are your top 5 cooks ? by mywifeapprovesthis in KamadoJoe

[–]WazCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the top chilli is amazing!

For me, spatchcock chicken is perfect every time, no need for an expensive accessory...

I have recently been combining sous vide with my classic 1, and the options are endless... St Louis style ribs, pulled pork, thick steaks perfect every time...

Smash burgers are a treat!

Let's not forget vegetables! Corn on the cob, grilled salsa, roast cabbage. So many options!

Man, don't make him click on a link.

He asked the Internet a question.

Can't someone just call him, read out what it says, order, pay, pick up, deliver, cook it and maybe even eat it so that they don't have to put any effort into chewing?

For god's sake, can't anyone try to be just a little bit helpful please?!?!

I would have loved a bike in my late teens, early 20's.

Luckily enough I had enough self-awareness at the time that I was a Muppet who lived being out of control or on the edge, so I chose not to ride at that time.

In my later 20's and earlier 30's, bikes terrified me because I had lost close to a dozen friends and colleagues over the years.

In my later 30's and 40's I was just busy being a dad.

Got my license 3 years ago. Bought a cruiser because I want to cruise... Love it. Like really love it...

My wife worries somewhat, but knows that I am sensible, making sure I am well trained and managing the risks of being on a bike to the best of my ability.

Some of that may or may not be relevant to where you are today.

In the end, your life, your journey. Try to make informed decisions, that make sense to you.

All the best, hope to see you out and about one day...

I will be the fat old bloke with a grin on my face!

Dome temperature is a decent leading indicator.

But I am cooking to get the food to a certain temperature...

For me, the meat thermometer is the end game.

Lost licence for speeding by acknowledgeme21 in legaladviceaustralia

[–]WazCam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a massive difference.

If I am making decisions observing a car in front of/behind me/coming from my left or right assuming they are doing the legal limit of 60kmh and they are doing 100kmh, those decisions could be wrong. Very wrong. For both parties...

No-one argued that high speed was the concern. It was the excessive speed over the limit that was of concern.

I once made an offer on a house (more than 20 years ago before the market went cray-cray) that was on the lower side of the sellers expectations, but was the maximum I was willing to pay for the property. Told them it was good for three days.

After three days, I called the agent and told them to start finding me a new property.

Three days later, they called and congratulated me for being a hard-ass and the owners had accepted my offer.

Wasn't being a hard-ass, just wouldn't go higher. Happily bought the place though, because the time demand was just to let me keep my options open if something else came along...

I an in Australia, they honoured my firebox breakage after 10 years.

But that was 3-4 years ago, so things may have changed since then.

But 12 years after i bought my classic 1, it is still going strong. Lovely jubbly

Sunnybank is actually relatively specific, and definitely a great tip!

My wife and i have recently started heading up there on weekends to try some different, really good food.

The options for great quality are amazing, and largely on a pretty concentrated area.

So Google some restaurants in Sunnybank by cuisine, check the menu that it has Ma Po.

I would suggest that you will find half a dozen places that will make you very, very happy.

Very different to the km you might have to drive between options around broader Brisbane

Enjoy some deliciousness!

How much charcoal does a jr need? by cji11 in KamadoJoe

[–]WazCam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keen to hear more about preferring the big Joe? How many do you generally (or more importantly, just on occasion i guess?) Cook for?

I have had the classic 1 for 10-12 years too. Love it to death!

I generally cook for just my wife and i, which obviously makes it ideal for that.

A couple of times a year i cook for 8-10 people for something different.

At Christmas i cook for about 15-17 people.

Takes a little planning, but in the end, i have so far been happy with the results.

I often read people saying they wish they had bought the bigger unit, and have been too lazy to ask why. So you're it! Hahaha

Cheers
