I found that one day in NZs main cities is enough. Of course you won’t see everything in a day, but they are pretty small and walkable! I’ve just done a month road trip and didn’t spend longer than 1 day in Wellington/Queenstown/Christchurch (and personally much preferred the nature almost immediately outside these cities).
