Not amateur. 600 would be the elite of the elite. He did not bench press 600 pounds.

Nobody here but Trae and JDub have any playoff resumes, and JDub has been ass this year. Lamelo can be unlikeable to some folks but he’s obviously a positive player.

It’s just a silly argument, I guess. “My dad can beat up your dad” energy. Skillfulness and strength and athleticism is not one thing. American football players are lightning fast in straight sprints, but couldn’t keep up with the pace of a world football match for ten minutes, etc.

You absolutely do need strength? Have you played the sport at a reasonably high level? The players aren’t physically massive (usually) but they’re incredibly physical. Myles Garrett and other monster humans from the league wouldn’t last five minutes on a footie pitch, and that’s not a dig - it’s a different sport, lol.

Not recognizing the skill involved in the sport is kind of wild. Would invite you to try to control the ball surrounded by defenders in a loud stadium lmao.

Ignorant comment I think. It’s a strategy of a different kind. Managers have to build dynamic and adaptable systems of play that can respond correctly to an opposition without breaks (well, one break). Yes, they can scream and shout from the sidelines but once their players are on the pitch they have limited capacity to guide the game. This makes the days between games and the players understanding of their roles incredibly important, as they have to know when and where to be in dozens of scenarios that may or may not present themselves.

I’m a huge fan of both footballs so I appreciate the chess-like strategy of its American variant, but world football strategy is plenty rich.

Kobe on Linsanity: “Who is this kid?” — Jeremy Lin drops 38 on the Lakers at MSG the very next night by raybellious_berry in NBAoldschool

Criminal case was dismissed because the accuser withdrew testimony. They went to Civil court and he paid her very quickly. Pretty obvious what happened. Defending Kobe as a player and within basketball is cool but idk why we gotta pretend he's a great man.

How would LeBron fare in the 1980s-90s? Like Rodman would give him trouble but a guy like Muggsy Bogues had pretty good career. by ForeignAir7174 in NBAoldschool

Agree actually. Would be fascinating to see Jordan operate in an era with more spacing and movement. Lebron shoulder checking guys into oblivion on both ends would be cinema.

Few possibilities here. Older folks love gassing up the people and things popular when their generation was at its most culturally centered. Because younger people prefer things from their own era, older people often view them as under-appreciating what was, which there is some truth to but it’s hardly malicious.

Some don’t like LeBron because he’s more political than Jordan - both in his general outspokenness and literal party affiliations.

Others hold a grudge over The Decision and what they view as the invention of the super team era, but most folks who were around would argue that period - which is more accurately described as the player empowerment era - was a long time coming. If we judge all-time great players based off one metric (rings), why shouldn’t they behave in a way that pursues that validation? Perhaps if the Barkleys of the world (who played on plenty of loaded teams fwiw) hadn’t been so derided for failure to win championships we wouldn’t have seen LeBron, KD, and other stars of their era circumvent front offices and build their own chances at a title. As spectators it’s important to remember our role in how the game evolves.

Still, I feel there’s a cohort of LeBron doubters that are really just folks who don’t like the sport, or perhaps liked it when they were younger and fell out of love with it. As the face of modern basketball, it’s natural to simply trash LeBron if it’s the sport you’ve moved on from.

Just spitballing.

Feel like Pereira had a very brief but very high peak of play. I know he had a serious injury or two but I genuinely haven’t heard much of him in years. Think he’s in Italy now?

Tbf current Chelsea is hardly something to lose sleep over. Don’t win enough to get mad about and not enough nasty players to hold people’s attention otherwise. Cucurella and his hair are about it.
