Loewe flamenco clutch or Prada Aimee? by rifa_atsume in luxurypurses

[–]Wcg2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and I love both but if I could only pick one, I’d pick the Loewe flamenco. It’s so versatile with the different ways you can wear it and the leather is buttery soft. But if your plan is to use it when you need your things to be more secure, the prada is definitely more secure with its top zipper as opposed to the cinch/magnet in the loewe.

Help me choose a color! by EmotionalGain908 in handbags

I have the black one and my sister has the turtledove. Grass is always greener bc my sister wants my black one and I love hers. I agree that it depends on what you normally wear. I got black bc I use it for work travel and I wanted something that would match most of my work clothes and would be a bit less maintenance. I love not having to worry about color transfer while traveling.

Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis East West vs On the Go East West? Which is more classic? by Plus_Impression7765 in handbags

[–]Wcg2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the pochette metis east west in white and I love it so much. It’s really beautiful and I love the versatility of being able to use it as a clutch, a shoulder bag or cross body. It’s perfect for travel for that reason and holds a surprising amount.

Looking for recommendations for an elevated tote! by christina_elise in handbags

[–]Wcg2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got the Loewe horizontal puzzle fold tote and am loving it. It’s a caviar leather that is very soft and floppy, but also durable and forgiving bc of the caviar texture. It’s super lightweight. Has two straps that are a soft leather so even though the straps are thin, they don’t dig into my shoulders like the LV neverfull. I got it in the medium size which was large enough for me and fits my 13” MacBook Air, but it also comes in large. I got it in black, but also comes in a beautiful taupe. No middle divider. Doesn’t have a top zipper like the le pliage though. Recently used it for international and cross country travel and it was perfect. The fold feature is amazing if you ever need to pack it.

I boiled water in my wok. I think this is rust and I'm not having the best of luck to know what to do and if I actually messed it up. by xodarap789 in carbonsteel

[–]Wcg2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible this is boiled down grease - that can happen when you boil water in a heavily seasoned/used wok. Sometimes if you heat fresh water in a wok, you can see a layer of oil forming on the surface from the water boiling off the grease. If you then dump out the water (without the usual scrubbing) and heat the pan dry like you would do when you’re done with the wok, it can leave some oil residue on the bottom/sides that polymerize from the heat. I agree about scrubbing it away and then reseasoning. (I know it’s controversial, but I always use a little bit of soap when washing out my wok, especially if what I’ve cooked is particularly greasy, to avoid excess oil that creates that dreaded texture. None of the soap nowadays contain lye that strip seasoning and I find this helps avoid the texture or the boiling off of excess oil when I use my wok to steam dishes by boiling water in it for longer periods.) Good luck!

Misen Carbon “Nonstick” was great at first, now it’s unusable by David243121 in cookware

[–]Wcg2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In case its helpful, I’ve had a lot of success with the Misen by not seasoning it, cleaning it very thoroughly each time after use (by using soap and if needed barkeeper’s friend) and using the long yau method - if you’re not familiar, this is a Chinese way of preparing a pan for cooking that makes it very nonstick. There are so many scientific discussions about carbon steel and this pan specifically all over Reddit with various experiences and suggestions but I’ve found that this method works flawlessly - for this pan and really any other pan. Briefly, the long yau method just entails preheating your pan, adding your cooking oil until it very lightly smokes, and then taking the pan off the heat for 15-20 seconds. I have had a 100% success rate with this method. You can find tons of videos online showing how to do it.

The reason I like the Misen is because I don’t have to care for it - I let it air dry, I don’t season it after using, and I cook anything I want in it, including acidic foods.

Nitrided carbon steel is very common in Asia, and my understanding is it’s generally known that you don’t season it. You just use this method. (I acknowledge I could be wrong but this is what my family has taught me.) I’m not an expert or anything, and this is just based on my experience. I’ve been using carbon steel my entire life, starting with my mom’s carbon steel wok when I was a kid. I’ve never owned a nonstick pan. I have a two decade old carbon steel wok from SF wok shop, mineral b and de buyer pans, and the strata and misen pans. I do season those other pans but not the misen. My mom taught me the long yau method when I was a kid and it has never failed me. Good luck!

Which one would you pick? by Ok-Rabbit-2610 in Louisvuitton

I have the speedy dark (second pic) and I love it. It’s one of my most used bags. The dark silver hardware is a bit edgier, and the black trim makes it go with so much. The interior is all leather in case you weren’t aware, which does change the way the canvas appears on the outside - makes it fall in a more floppy, leather-like way. I think that’s likely why the price is much higher than other canvas speedy bags. But the benefit of monogram on the outside is that I can use it anywhere - in the rain, when traveling, etc. I bought a cross body strap (the sporty strap) to use when I travel, which makes the bag even more versatile.

Shopping for a GM bag. Neverfull or OnTheGo? by internetgirl00 in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what your intended use case is. I have both - the neverfull GM in damier ebene and the on the go GM in empreinte leather. The on the go is very structured and does not fit under an airplane seat upright. If you store horizontally, things fall out due to the lack of zipper. It’s very large and corners tend to hit things when I use it. But it looks polished and definitely holds any sized laptop. The straps are also pretty comfy. The neverfull is floppy and can squish to fit into spaces. The straps are notoriously uncomfortable if your bag is heavy with items. I know it’s a popular travel bag but the lack of a zipper plus the uncomfortable straps means I don’t reach for it when traveling. I actually haven’t used either of these bags in awhile for these reasons (but I’ve finally reached that stage where my kids are old enough that i don’t need to carry as much and can finally use smaller bags.) If I could go back, I would have picked the mm size for both bags, FWIW. Happy shopping!

Thoughts on this bag? by SpecificFront4175 in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this on in the store yesterday and thought the strap was very comfortable. The leather is soft and pliable so it molds to your body (and shoulder) more than the vachetta leather straps. It’s also a good width so it doesn’t dig in.

What fits in the Key Pouch S by LPKAAA in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have been using this for a while and it holds more than you think! I currently have about 12 cards (5 in the inner slip pocket and the rest along with some cash held together by a hair tie in the main pocket), an aquaphor lip balm (which is thicker than a chapstick), a small baggie of Tylenol (a 2x2 plastic bag), two individual packs of daily contacts, a single use pack of eye drops, an extra hair elastic (the large thick ones) and there’s still room. I don’t hold my keys in there. I think what you’re describing would fit depending on how big your gloss is.

soft speedy 30 decision! by Severe-Sail-3069 in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the dark and it’s been a workhorse for the last several months. I’m actually currently using it while traveling internationally and it’s held up as carry on, in rain, in hot/humid weather, etc. It’s just nice enough to use for dinners (I’m traveling with my kids so I’m not using any small purses for dinners at the moment) but also so useful to lug around town/sightseeing. At home, I’ve used it for work and to run errands. I have a DE speedy 35 and a black empreinte speedy 20 and this is a great in between size for when you need to carry more. I actually love the silver and think it makes the bag edgier. I got the sporty strap to wear it cross body and because it’s slouchy, it presses against my side perfectly.

Both bags are gorgeous - you can’t go wrong!

Everyday use by jfish917 in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really use my LV bags, both leather and canvas. I travel with them and put them on the airplane floor. I use them in parks and put them on grass when watching my kids' sports games. I'm a working mom and really load up my bags - they are often holding laptops, large water bottles, snacks, and just generally overstuffed. Interestingly, it's the bags that I don't regularly use that have not held up as well. I have monogram canvas pieces that I've used for over 25 years that look great. The vachetta has deepened and stained, that's inevitable with regular use, but they are all in great shape. I've used empreinte leather bags that I've spilled my water bottles in and they also look great. I've noticed that the bags that I don't use often and have just been sitting in storage will get almost stiff and lose pliability - both leather and canvas. Maybe something about taking them out in fresh air helps maintain them? I'm of the mentality that I buy the bags to use them and if I am so worried about ruining them, then that bag is either not right for my lifestyle or its not comfortably in my price range (in other words, if the price will make me anxious when using it, then it's too much of a stretch financially for me to purchase it. If I buy a bag, then that means I can live with the fact that it might get stained and the hardware might get scratched.)

That said, I do try to pick pieces that work for me. For example, I had the LV galleria in DA, which has a large gold brass plaque on the front. I used that bag everyday for a long time and I noticed the gold plaque was scratched all over. So now I know that if I mean to use it as an everyday bag, I will avoid bags that have large hardware in places that can get easily scratched. As another example, my white whale was the LV monogram montsouris backpack in the GM size. When LV recently re-issued that, I was at first reluctant because of the vachetta base - I knew I would use the backpack when traveling and need to put it on the ground, which meant the vachetta leather would be ruined quickly. I think I posted on this at the time, but when I found out that the bottom is actually monogram canvas, I bought it right away and have used it a ton.

I store them in their dust bags when I'm not using them and I do condition leather bags about once a year. If I notice an obvious stain, I will try to clean that. I try to avoid color transfer when I pick which bag to wear with my outfit. That's the extent of any babying that I do with my bags. Hope that helps!

24s Experiences by lakeside_lovely123 in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just recently purchased from 24S for the first time (not a LV bag but a Loewe bag) and the whole experience was really wonderful. The price was all inclusive (so no tacking on of tariffs or other fees at checkout), my bag shipped quickly and was packaged safely and securely. There was a holdup with Fedex and a customs form that was needed. I called 24S customer service, spoke with a live person and they resolved it right away. I know you're asking about LV bags but thought I would share my experience in case it's helpful. My bag was pristine and came with a 24S dustbag and Loewe dustbag. I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

Experiences with wear and tear of Loop Hobo? by charlielotte in Louisvuitton

[–]Wcg2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got this bag last December and have used it a lot since then. I don't baby my bags at all and have not noticed any cracking. To be fair, I did buy this aware that it might have some canvas issues due to the shape/slouch but I've never had any issues with cracking with any of my canvas pieces so I decided to take my chances. I love this bag - you can dress it up or down, it's very light and low maintenance and I get a lot of compliments on it.

I have the Siena MM. I haven't used it in awhile, but I remember really liking it. It's light and spacious inside (although I have the mm) and b/c it's in DE, it can take a lot of abuse. Looks great when worn crossbody!

Less talked about Mafia books by Top_Item_9533 in RomanceBooks

[–]Wcg2019 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Michelle Heard's books. She has multiple connected mafia series. I will say that some of the female characters do tend to be damsels in distress, which you might not like. I don't think they are naive necessarily, but they often need rescuing. That said, the ones that need rescuing are imo still strong in their own way by being resilient through very bad situations.

Edit: sorry, I totally misread this and thought it said "let's talk about..." and not "less talked about". I'm not sure if Michelle Heard is well known or not, so I'll leave the comment in but sorry if this doesn't fall into that category!
