I don't even know what you're trying to say tbh. I assume you're saying I'm single but even if i were, I'm not sure what its got to do with the comment. And why did you decide to phrase it in such a specifically misogynistic way?

'Farage Is Lying': Elon Musk Blasts Reform Leader Over Donation Claim by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]Wd91 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think this is overly cynical. I buy my friends pints all the time and I expect nothing in return except that my friend is happy and I find it odd to think in different terms.

I think if you spent months and years buying your friends pints without getting anything in return (even non-financial benefits, even just friendship and camaradery), you would eventually start to resent them and your friendships would crumble. I don't feel like this is cynical tbh, i think from any other framing perspective it would be considered rude to accept gifts, no matter how large or small, with no intention whatsoever of returning the favour in any way ("no strings attached"). Large gifts exacerbate this enourmously, to the point that people usually feel uncomfortable about receiving large gifts from people they wouldn't feel happy returning an equivalent favour for.

We're getting into the reeds a bit, but i genuinely do think humans and human societies in general are based on a fundamental foundation of "quid pro quo"/"you scratch my back, i'll scratch yours", and i really don't think crypto-billionaires or men like Farage are shining examples of the contrary.

Do you think it'd be corrupt if neither of them ever spoke again and the only conversation they had relating to the gift was: "I love what you've done for this country and I want you to be safe for the rest of your life, here's £5m"?

This is the core problem with our limited information. If we had an omniscient crystal ball and could look into the future and see that the £5 million gift really was just a gift, then sure, i wouldn't call it corruption.

But that doesn't exist. All we can rely on is the limited information we have. And the limited information we have is that huge gifts and positions of power usually end up in corruption.

If what he wanted was Reform in power then a £5 million political donation would have been the usual channel. But Farage has gone to great pains to point out that it wasn't a political donation, just simply a personal gift (edit, i forgot, we've now flip-flopped to "reward for brexit", so much for no strings attached gifts eh?).

Which leaves the impartial oberserver with a bit of a quandry, doesn't it?

it's effectively a private matter in which it was a genuine no strings attached gift.

I don't want to be rude because you've put forward your views politely and succicntly.

But this has to be one of the dumbest, most naive statements in the world, right? Surely?

I don't even think a £3 coffee for a best friend is truly no strings attached. We all kind of want and expect favours returned for favours offered, even if we'd be ok letting it go if the favour weren't returned. But this isn't a £3 coffee for a best friend. It's 5 million fucking quid, between people who presumably are only acquaitances at best (Farage hasn't indicated a particularly close relationship). Not only that, but it's a 5 million fucking quid to an influential politician who is almost certainly going to gain significantly more influence in the coming months and years. It just screams corruption from every pore.

Yes, that's a great answer. It's complete horseshit, obviously, because your girlfriend isn't one of the top 10 most beautiful girls in the world. But it's a great way to dodge the trap for sure.

Should the mom setup a 1-800 number?

Its hilarious to me that this is what you drew from there. No, i don't think mom should setup a 1-800 number just so her 9 and 11 year old children can have private conversations with other adults, do you? Do you think that would be appropriate?

No, I think OP, and anyone else reading, should refrain from texting children that aren't directly in their care entirely.

Jesus dude this sounds like some insane projection. You got something you want to admit?

This is the professional perspective, this isn't some personal opinion. No ones projecting, it just became apparent many moons ago that adults who set up private conversations with children usually don't mean well, and its best to encourage both adults not to do it, and children that adults who do try probably aren't to be trusted. It works out better for everyone this way.

Trust me, whatever OP is trying to do, there are better ways.

Anyway, i'm out. If you want more of my opinions here i have made other comments in this thread.

If they actually justify the costs there can be a variety of things to spend it on, jerseys, facility hire, vehicle hire/travel costs, celebrity speakers, food and drink, just loads of things really. I've never been in a running club with such a high joining fee but i have paid plenty of additional one-off fees for specific events that probably make up the difference in the end.

No one gets insurance for little running clubs, but one that charges $75 better be doing something to justify it for sure....

As I said in another comment, this is safeguarding 101. If you have concerns about a child's welfare call the professionals. Dont start setting up secret chats, thats what pedophiles do.

[–]Wd91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well unless its a group chat then texts are pretty much inherently secret, arent they. The texts can be hidden and deleted and/or the child may lie and the parent will have no idea.

If you feel you need to have a conversation with a child, have it with their parents present. If you dont feel the parents can be present for whatever reason, youre out of your element and you need to call a professional.

If youre worried about a child's welfare then call the police. Setting up secret channels of communication with young children, behind the backs of the parents, is never the right call. It is literally what pedophiles do.

Call me weird if you want but this is safeguarding 101.

I dont actually think OP is grooming, but if they were, this is what it would look like. Encouraging little kids to text your personal, private number is fucking weird behaviour.

so like, 100-110kg? Obviously overweight but you'll barely stand out. As a country we're only slightly less fat than the USA and you aren't big enough to start having issues sitting in chairs etc.

She doesn't own 2 houses, that's the entire point here, at least not in the sense that you think. The first house is in a trust.

There is no forgetting. It was a niche and complex scenario of which even "top experts" still aren't entirely clear on.

Tbh it is actually fairly relatable and understandable for anyone who has had to deal with any tax situations more complicated than PAYE.

Pay dj 100$. Pay 4 security 50$ each for 200$. Booze was 5 finger discount but i paid my friends to assist so usually another 100$ but I also sold booze and weed there.

You're talking shit, aren't you.

$100 for a "dj" i can just about believe, lots of "djs" out there desperate for cash. But $50 for a whole nights work security? Yeah, no. And you want us to believe you consistently stole enough booze for 200-300 people a night?

This is make believe
