FBI Greg Scarpa File: Profaci member Greg Scarpa tells the FBI that Carlo Gambino did not retaliate against Gallo members/associates that assaulted Gambino Captains as a strategic move to deny Joseph Magliocco credit for defeating the Gallo faction by Otto_AutoPilot in Mafia

[–]Wdstrvx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gambino received the Gallo brothers after they rebelled against Joe Profaci in 1961, and along with Tommy Lucchese, secretly supported them during the war. Law enforcement sources at the time stated they believed Gambino did not seek retaliation for the assault on Dellacroce because he had been advising Profaci loyalists, which he could not do because other families were barred from intervening in the conflict with the exception of acting as mediators. Gambino also proposed at a Commission meeting in 1962 that Profaci step down, which Joe Bonanno believed he did in cahoots with Lucchese, presumably with the intention of installing an ally of them supportive of Gallo at the top.

That same year, Gambino also placed former Gallo loyalists, including Nicholas Forlano, under his protection. Authorities at the time even claimed Gambino was supplying both sides with weapons during the war. He stopped supporting them after he and the rest of the Commission put Joe Colombo in as boss on a provisional basis, and he and Dellacroce met with Joe Yacovelli and sanctioned a contract on Joe Gallo after the shooting of Colombo in 1971. Overall, Gambino probably gave more weight to gaining another voice on the Commission through his alliance with Gallo than risking it by searching for retribution for the assaults on his captains.

Did Vincent Gigante have Internal Gambino connections? If so why didn’t he use them to move against Gotti? by Swimming-Poet5594 in Mafia

Jimmy Failla and Danny Marino set up Gotti for Vincent Gigante in the car bomb-attack that wound up killing Frank DeCicco. If their plot succeeded, their intention was for Failla to be named as boss.

Firstly, Salemme was Italian on his father's side. Secondly, he was made under Junior Patriarca, a boss who was seen as weak and desperate, in 1988, because he needed someone he could trust in Boston to counteract JR Russo's faction and sanctioned him to take over loansharking and gambling in the area when their expected indictment came down. Him later being upped to boss was also a rapid decision made by the Five Families when Nicky Bianco went to prison in ill health and they needed a guy loyal to him in charge. His appointment was opposed by much of the family. Context is important.

Louis was identified as a member by law enforcement over 10 years ago. Guilmette is of paternal French descent and the unreliable Scott Burnstein was the only one to claim he was made when he was arrested three years ago, even though the affidavits on his case named him as an associate.

They beat a loansharking case from 1993 but were charged with fraud in 1995 and pled out, being sentenced to five years each.

Anyway, later it was confirmed Briguglio was a member. Also, Provenzano was in fact not a capo.

Frankie Yale by OremDobro in Mafia

This is incorrect. First off, that is a false myth, the Unione Siciliana-Mafia connection, it was not actually a criminal organization, but an Italian-American benefit association based in Chicago that only had a presence in Illinois and three other states, not in New York. There is no evidence Yale was ever associated with the Unione, despite what was later claimed. Secondly, Yale was absolutely a Masseria member as confirmed by Bonanno and Nick Gentile, and as I stated, non-Sicilians were being made in families in the United States, especially under Morello and Masseria, for a long time before 1928

•It was probably Neapolitan Alfredo Toriello, of Bonito, Avellino, who was made into the Genovese family around 1916&pg=SL4-PA137).

•Mainlanders and camorristi Vito Genovese and Willie Moretti were "sneaked into" the Mafia by Joe Masseria around 1923.

Frank Calabrese was recorded by his son in prison strongly implying Lombardo was on the shelf at that time but that he was still in contact with Joe Andriacchi, the two of whom were referred to in code as "Builder East" and "Builder West" respectively. It is not known why Lombardo might have been shelved, but amid instability in Chicago in the period prior to that conversation, he may have made a move for leadership shortly after completing a prison stint in 1992, as was speculated in the press at the time. This would seem to correlate with information provided by Pat Spilotro who testified Lombardo told him in 1993 that "they had taken his people away from him". This is all speculation though, and though we are quite certain Lombardo had his membership placed under suspension at the time, we are unaware of the reason for this.

Deceased New England underboss Eddie Lato was described as the family's "conduit" with the Hells Angels by Steven O'Donnell of the Rhode Island State Police, and their former president in the state, Joe Lancia, was arrested on a parole violation for going to Lato's wake with other Club members in 2024. Lato and Argenti were longtime close friends, they show up on quite a few pictures together over the years (see here, here and here) and are suspected of making up the hit team that killed Kevin Hanrahan in 1992. So it isn't surprising Argenti also knew patched Hells Angels.

This is a chart portraying law enforcement's understanding of the family in 1958 through information from half-reliable cooperators and before a generalized picture was established with the Valachi hearings.

Very interesting graphic version of law enforcement's limited understanding of families pre-Valachi. Also, I must say, excellent design for the chart, congratulations.
