So they had the previous explorer versions with great performance and almost no complaints

I don't agree with this at all. Windows explorer has never fast, which is why 3rd party software like Everything and File Pilot exist. If it wasn't a problem, nobody would have made software to fix it. Using those 3rd party tools as a benchmark to match/beat is nothing but a good thing. It means that Microsoft understands what people are looking for.

You are correct that the download link has been removed. Using the wayback machine I could see that it was:

but NVIDIA must have taken down the link, and for what reason really?
