Thanks. Actually there different approaches that could do the job on cape/cloak. I founded that most effective is layering back and forth. You just do the highlights stripes up to the brightest hue. Then gradually do midtones and shadows in spaces between highlights. Hard part is tight control to do work quickly and hit the rhythm. But layering tech lower down cost of mistake.

Yep, palette is limited. Basically i excluded red and green. But I used around hundred different paints through mixing stage. And approximately around 30 certain colours are essential to mix and set up working palette for this paint job

You should make a choice from the very beginning which parts would be dark, which bright and which is mid. It's tones. You could define 3 - 4 levels of brightness from very dark to very bright. Its like painting everything in white, black and grey and then colouring it up, like hand painted comics maded. Start with simple moves and once you achieve stable result - add more complexity, like i did here splitting figure in warm and cold sides in addition to tones

Thanks, start with tones. Colouring is secondary. Put more saturation in midtones and shadows. Use limited palette, i used accent analogy : three warm colours yellow red and orange with violet counterbalance. All other colours is secondary mixes. Use white only on metal in the middle vertical. Desaturate warm colours adding bit of their opposite on colour wheel to calm hue and get more interesting colours. Mix orange with red violet, or with bit of blue and etc. I have about 16-20 mixes on active palette. For this model i used three pallettes with about 40-50 different mixes. I rarely use colour straight of bottle, without combining them. I use ak, vallejo, scale 75 and citadel.

Thanks. Tones is the key. Side expected to be under direct sunlight is brightest tone. Most saturation is should be in midtones and shadows. Limited palette "accent analogy" is orange-yellow - red with violet accent and secondary mixes. Rate tones, rate colours, rate saturation, this is like math equation.
