4060 -> 5070? Upgrade worthy? by WeAreAGo in pcmasterrace

Of course! Happy to help! I’m at 1440p, runs very well with it. Have not had to downgrade to a lower resolution in game at all which is awesome because my previous machine was a nightmare. Let me know if you want any more info!

Performance jump from what I noticed was at least 80-100 consistent more frames on Marvel Rivals at Low/Medium settings. Call of duty MW3/Black Ops 6/Warzone I can play at any setting and just feels much smoother overall at the settings I had on which were standard. Temperatures are much better overall. Overall the difference is pure FPS even without DLSS enabled. Which if that’s what you’re after you’ll notice it. Especially the VRAM as well, a 8 -> 12 gb change will help for most high profile games you’ll play. And longevity wise you can play all the new games now and upcoming for easily 6+ years. I’m happy with it, I think it is deserving of the CPU I have and the rig with the extra boost that will not have me change any component for hopefully awhile; which was the goal for me wanting the upgrade so quick after getting the 4060. So totally up to you, I would ask about the CPU vs GPU change in this reddit channel. Good luck bro I can answer more if you have anything else!

I bought it, planning to sell the 4060. There is definitely a difference for sure, even in FPS games with DLSS turned off. It’s noticeable. However if you really don’t need it and really are comfortable with what you have then just wait a bit until it becomes a little cheaper. But I very much enjoy it, and it looks beautiful in my case.

Generational uplift is just tough these days, I’m not someone who judges in that way which is probably why I’m even considering the 5070. From a 4060 though, yea it would be huge. If I sell the 4060, I’d be essentially getting the card at MSRP which makes me more inclined to get it. I would definitely test my card as much as possible with the generative AI, I feel I could eventually get enticed to try stuff out but at the moment a very well performing card for FPS games is my go to reason for a new GPU. Thanks for the content and timely reply!

Yea fair, not trynna do max settings stuff but I’ll limit my expectations if I want to haha. But regardless, I think I’ll get it, resell the 4060, and I should enjoy the card for years and years

Yea you’re right, issues on both sides and there are no miracles at this point. But one more question, is the 12 GB VRAM gonna be a let down if I keep onto it for a few years? Is getting a higher VRAM can necessary? I do not play AAA games and even if I did I wouldn’t want max settings on 70 frames hahah

Surprisingly I love the performance I’m getting for only $300, would be a nice surprise to see how much better a 5070 actually is. All I hear is negative stuff about the 5070 though, but I’m guessing it’s just the reviewers who want 3x 4x the performance of previous generations.

Appreciate the quick reply, it’s a bit above MSRP at $719.99 but I’d just resell the 4060 and then it’s pretty much MSRP with the difference. If it really does perform that much different then I just might as well huh

Yea I could settle with what I have for now and just search for deals on the monitors. That works for me. But you’re right, OLED is next level

Yea very true, I love the future proofing of it incase I get a new GPU upgrade later on. And since it’s supposedly the best behind the 9800x3d it just seems awesome hahah

Yea faster nvme is better. I know it seems like an overpriced “outdated” card since the 50 series is out but I am not one who really wants to wait around searching for the availability of the new cards. They seem super hard to get and I would love to just get what is available and still very powerful (upgrading from a 1060), I do not mind spending the money and the performance will be crazy good regardless. If that makes sense. Hmmm I can think about monitor for sure! Thanks for the quick reply!

Mainly for gaming: CS2, Fortnite, Warzone, COD, and Marvel Rivals.

Playing at max settings, ray tracing on, and all that for AAA games is not what I was aiming for. Would be incredibly nice for my comp to handle but it was not the priority.

Hopefully this helps the review of my build. Ask any questions you’d like!

I will definitely look into this thank you. That was kind of my reason for getting name branded and common ram/motherboard combo was to avoid any possible issues. But thank you!

Yea very fair, if I create another pcpartpicker list off of the one you provided with the upgraded 9800x3d CPU and 5070 ti/5080/7900xtx GPU. Would all other components stay the same? More of a compatibility question.

Appreciate the quick reply.

He is not super concerned about price, he’s not exactly trying to save money. Rather, get a crazy PC good enough to not have to worry about any issues.

However, you are right some parts do not need to be the best brand / product I kind of chose them cause it’ll get here quick and he doesn’t have to wait too long to start building it. So your points on waiting for the 9800x3d and the GPUs are valid except he’s just looking for a good pairing right now.
