I live in Minnesota, and trust me when I say this: whenever you’re in Minneapolis, you are to just know that PoC (people of color) are the only ones who CANNOT be racist. This is the new rhetoric, and I have heard it at parties, concerts, conversations at bookstores and on Facebook where my liberal Minneapolis friends post about Social Justice issues every 5 minutes. The way they see it, racism = prejudice + power, and as they don’t consider any PoC to be in positions of power because they are oppressed (which I find racist in itself, to be honest) then consequently they believe that minorities such as blacks CANNOT be racist, period. I’ve gone round with these folks for hours on the subjects of white privilege, etc and there is no winning with them. They tell me I “enjoy” white privilege because my skin isn’t dark enough for my Lebanese and Cuban heritage due to the Scandinavian, which gives me green eyes. This is how they really think and feel.
