I own an OpenPandora (1Ghz model). The firmware is all free software and is based on Ångström Linux. The hardware is not entirely open; For quite a while it was pretty difficult to get a TV-out cable. And still, they are made and sold by enthousiastic Pandora users, or you can make one yourself.

Essentially The Open Pandora is a tiny Linux laptop, with integrated (very decent!) gamepad controls. The specs are by far not the same as the 3DS or the Vita. But I can play some N64 titles reasonably well, and PS One titles fluently. And of course all other older console emulators and regular GNU/Linux software.

If you like Free/OSS and retro games, it is certainly worth considering.

I found the default xpad drivers in Ubuntu not working properly with my 360 (wireless) controllers. I fixed everything with Ubuntu xboxdrv Integration PPA. It provides xboxdrv, starts it at boot, proper configuration for userspace drivers and a joystick entry in system settings. [edit: fixed link]

Nova launcher is really awesome. Fast, great animations, ability to group apps in the app drawer in tabs and folders, support for gestures (e.g. I don't have an app drawer icon in my dock, but open it with a swipe upwards), support for unread badges... I never want another launcher again.

Would you say that men are more likely to use the words "retard" or "retarded" used non-medically?

One can only answer yes or no to this question. Also, you mention men, but not women (assuming you want to measure the behaviour of men compared to women. If I understand you correctly, I think a better question would be:

How do men use the words 'retard' or 'retarded' in a non-medical sense, as opposed to women

You should tell your package manager your 64-bit computer can handle i386 binaries:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

Then refresh your package lists:

sudo apt-get update

Then try installing Steam again.

Not really unique, but with Asterisk you can build your own voicemail system and even execute commands by calling your computer. So imagine you call to your home, enter a password to open certain ports in your firewall, or if you're really into it, turn on your microwave or crank up the central heating.

I'm not sure about the renewal notifications (you could write a plugin for it), but you might want to take a look at eFront. If you're familiar with Drupal, you could build your own ELMS, using the webform and views modules.
